Hans Von Spakovsky of the Heritage Foundation writes...

Dec 15, 2018, 8:57 PM

THE END

"...First, his theory that anything intended to “influence” an election is a campaign-related expense fails to take into account the statutory limitation on this definition. FECA (52 U.S.C. 30114 (b)(2)) specifically says that campaign-related expenses do not include any expenditures “used to fulfill any commitment, obligation, or expense of a person that would exist irrespective of the candidate’s election campaign.”

NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!

Heritage Foundation is a very conservative foundation

Have any opinions/references from more middle of the road sites?

And most importantly...didn’t the judge already rule differently?

You read the statute and the results of the last candidate..

who paid hush money to his squeeze, you tell me if it's over or not.

Edwards had his GF working in his campaign and they still didn't find him guilty of anything because no law was broken, neither then nor when Trump paid the women.

As far as Cohen's plea agreement, suppose you and I double dated with sisters and their father was a prosecutor. Further suppose that her father didn't like you but could find nothing on you so he looked through my background and discovered an unpunished crime.

He has me on some serious chit but he really only wanted to get to you so he offered me a plea agreement with a much reduced sentence if I'd plea guilt to conspiring to date his daughter. Whether or not it's illegal to date his daughter I would still be on record as guilt of doing it.

Would that make you guilty of the crime of dating his daughter? No, I appreciate how simply silly the entire situation is but it equates to the Cohen plea in that it's no more a crime to date a prosecutor's daughter than it is for a candidate to pay a bimbo for her silence. Anyway, that's how the law reads.

How does congress get away with it and how does the law read to you?

I assume he accepted the plea deal to avoid harder punishment in future charges. Paying off a stripper seems like small change.

The lack of morals, ethics and integrity in all our elected officials is shameful.

It's a disgrace.

If not for Obama governing so far left which required a monster to put things back as they were Trump could never been elected. He just took us too far to the left for right leaning folks. Whether or not a man or woman is moral will never decide another POTUS election.

We had two despicable candidate from which to choose. The only reasonable thing to do was choose the one who promise to move the country in the direction I wanted. Trump fit the bill though I never expected a POTUS to do so much to keep campaign promises and I would have bet against Trump doing what he's done in the first two years.

It looks like Obamacare may indeed be unconstitutional since Pubs slipped the removal of the mandate past the dems. Perhaps had they not been absorbed in resisting and whining about Trump they might have seen this coming.

Each party had a chance to elect a better candidate

Dec 16, 2018, 6:54 PM

Dems bench was pretty short, and Hilary was better than Bernie. Pubs had plenty of better choices than Trump. I can rationalize how Trump won general election, but no clue how he even cleared primary.

Like you said, we can not turn the clock back. The bar has been set very low for future elections.

Obama was not too far left. Check out Bernie, the new woman from NYC, or any of those protesters in Cali to see how far left things could go. Electing someone like Trump just empowers them even more.

Imo, Obama was much further left than he said.

Dec 16, 2018, 8:11 PM

Imagine how far left I believe Bernie and the NY dingbat to be. :)

What we have is a window defining the far left from the far right. Previous to Cortez being elected I considered a true socialist outside that window. I was wrong. I consider the white supremacist to be outside the far right of that window. I still believe that. I know of no district which would elect a true white supremacist to the House of Reps.

The window is shifting to the left. You may be too young to see it but 50 years ago no district would have elected Cortex or Bernie. That window has been shifting for over a century now.

I frequently plead guilty to crimes I didn't commit.

Sooo, you gonna petition the judge to knock some time off Cohen's sentence for that non-crime?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The prosecutor suggest the sentence.

Dec 16, 2018, 3:54 PM

Have you seen what all Cohen is guilty of? If they can prove half of what I've read he's suspected of doing he should serve 25+ on Riker's Island.
