Gregg Marshall

Dec 18, 2013, 9:04 AM

Any idea why Clemson or the dirtpeckers never went after this guy? He did a great job at Winthrop and now has Wichita St. ranked 11th after taking them to the final 4 last year.

Quick question then

What's with the extra G in his name. Do you pronounce it Greg or Greg-g, with an extra Guh at then end?

B/c Clemson is not committed to basketball

I would have loved to pick up Gregg Marsahll and I'm sure he'd leave Witchita for the right price. I grew up a Wintrhop bball fan living near the arena and he grew very attached to the area. He was offered a CofC HC job and accepted but then turned it down b/c he didn't want to leave. He also turned down USF and a few others. Witchita St came calling w/ an offer he couldn't refuse and a chance to coach a team w/ much more potential. He is from Radford, VA and he and his wife family are all in Southeast. He was actually in a dinner club w/ my parents when he lived in RH. I would much rather buckle down and give him 3mill a year as HC rather than build a new LittleJohn w/ mediocre teams and new increase in attendance.

No doubt the guy can coach

Doesn't he have family in Greenwood? I think I remember reading that somewhere

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes on Greenwood.

Dec 18, 2013, 9:32 AM

My sister dated him for awhile.

Gregg moved with his mother from Greenwood to Virginia

when we were in middle school although he would come back to Greenwood in the summers and during holidays to visit his father.

His father lived in Lodge Grounds between hole #4 and #5 tee box.

His father was a bit of a jerk to us 10 year old kids back then.

Coot father

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Indeed...his father had a very abrasive personality....

especially when he was officiating those YMCA league basketball games.

He has acknowledged that he is a devout coot lover

Gregg is a lifelong Gamecock fan but the Gamecock administration has been too dumb for too long to give the man a chance to lead the program. At this point he's well above the USC basketball job (who isn't?)

He is a big Gamecock fan I believe.

I am hoping due to coaches being very prideful they have burned that bridge by taking different coaches over him their last two searches.

They took the Nazi Horn and now the Angry Man Child Martin.

null

I wouldn't categorize Gregg Marshall as a big Gamecock fan

Dec 18, 2013, 11:09 AM

His father was a HUGE Gamecock fan and Gregg pulled for South Carolina especially in the rivalry game.

USC passed

Dec 18, 2013, 12:41 PM

In favor of Horn. They acknowledged the mistake after Horns departure but he was happy in Witchita.
