Georgia Tech drops appeal. No ACCT...

Their game with us Friday is their last game of season. I would think this helps us rather than hurts playing at home, but if they have a chance to win out after their game at home mid week, might be really motivated...

Who else remembers the days with Georgia Tech insisted they were the cleanest, most studious, seriously above board program in college football, beyond reproach and immune to even the possibility of cheating? Man, I do.
1. Of course that was before the big '89 TENNIS scandal involving recruiting and payment to players. 2. And it was prior to the 2005 trouble when Tech was seriously penalized for lying about the academic progress toward a degree for all those football players whom they once bragged had to take Calculus. 3. That purity claim was also before the 2011 four year probation, $100,000 fine and forfeiture of games for wholesale cheating in football and basketball. 4. Can't forget the 2014 probation for several hundred concealed calls to recruits in football and basketball during 'no contact periods' and the big 'failure to monitor' the performance of its coaches.
And then they dropped their appeal to their latest bit of larceny....
5. Four years of probation. • A 2019-20 postseason ban for the men’s basketball team. • A fine of $5,000 plus 2% of the men’s basketball program budget. • A reduction of one men’s basketball scholarship during each year of probation. • Recruiting restrictions for the men’s basketball program that will apply for each year of probation, including: ? An eight-week ban on unofficial visits. ? A three-visit reduction from the permissible number of official visits. ? An eight-week ban on recruiting communications. ? A reduction of 19 recruiting-person days from the permissible number. • A three-year show-cause order for the former assistant coach. During that period, any NCAA member school employing him must restrict him from any athletically related duties unless it shows cause why the restrictions should not apply. • A vacation of records in which the men’s basketball student-athletes competed while ineligible. The university must provide a written report containing the contests impacted to the NCAA media coordination and statistics staff within 14 days of the public decision release. • A prohibition from scheduling official visits in conjunction with home men’s basketball competitions during the first two years of probation. • Disassociations of the following individuals (self-imposed by the university): ? A three-year disassociation of the former assistant coach. ? A three-year disassociation of the former Georgia Tech men’s basketball student-athlete and booster. ? A disassociation of the head coach’s friend and booster.
Yaknow once GT decided to challenge Georgia for the title of biggest outlaw program in the Peach State, the Yellow Jackets have blown right past little ole Clemson in lifetime NCAA troubles.
As an old guy who lived through the holier than thou years with Georgia Tech fans, I keep track of this sort of foolishness.

That’s an impressive list of punishments. I can think of about 10 programs that should already be looking at that plus at least one more year without the tournament (Auburn, Kansas, Arizona, Louisville and others).

That certainly is an impressive list of punishments but the question remains --- What punishments will the ACC tack on?

They should have gotten the death penalty but then we wouldn’t have been able to enjoy their suffering this year and first ever win in Chapel Hole

CBJ will likely just be getting a 9'tall bronze statue outside of Bobby Dodd. Yes they've been that bad.

GT’s strategy all along

GT’s strategy all along was to wait and see if the BB team had a chance to make the NCAA tournament. To be clear, GT has not dropped their appeal. They are choosing to give up something (tournament eligibility) that was worth nothing. They are still appealing loss of scholarships, etc.
