Georgia Tech/dirty blocks
Oct 29, 2017, 5:35 PM
|
|
Dabo said last night he was going to talk to Tech head coach Paul Johnson about dirty blocks, and Dexter Lawrence was the target of two nasty ones last night. They were on the game's first and third plays. These aren't just dangerous, they are career-ending. One hits him low and another big dude falls on his legs from behind. That's worse than targeting if you ask me.

Its horrifically dangerous. Unfortunately, not enough teams use a blocking scheme like this to warrant NCAA attention.

Thank you for update David, I say it’s time for rules change to protect

Defenders. If a defender is engaged and another player cuts him, that cut player should be ejected just as a targeting call. Defenders need protection too sometimes, Dabo needs to go to Paul Johnson, Swoffird, and NCAA rules committee to discuss and figure it out. Big Dex and other defenders are too important to the game to be taking cheap shots from opponents.

David please tweet this out

Tag Swofford, Dabo, Paul, the ACC, the NCAA, ESPN, Danny Kannell.... anybody that can get this into the public spotlight. This needs to be put into the public for anything to happen. Otherwise it'll just fade into the wind.
Edit: I know you've tweeted the vids already, but I think people need to be tagged.

That first one is especially bad.

The o-lineman to the left of Big Dex basically has no one to block so he just falls into Dex’s back. Pretty dirty and classless to me.

This referee should be questioned about this during the ACC officiating review of the game.

If targeting is an ejection, so should a chop block
Oct 29, 2017, 6:32 PM

That second one is a clear chop and dirty play. Thats not anything close to a cut.

cut blocking should be a personal foul..

If player safety is top priority, then shouldn't be allowing 300 pound olinemen targeting defenders knees

That's just the way the game has always been played. They are already screwing it up with too many stupid rules. They keep going and it will be flag football.

Of those two clips, I don't think the one at the bottom is a chop block at all. #90 gets cut blocked by a guy engaging him. The guy next to him is being engaged by another Tech blocker, who gets turned sideways but is not blocking #90. That's not a chop block at all.
The top clip might be. But it's not possible to tell because the mass of bodies makes it hard to see what's going on. I can see one guy engaging #90, and another who is firing off to block. But the camera angle makes it totally inconclusive.
Nice try. But you whiffed on both plays.

When are y'all going to get tired of antique football and run a real offense? There is a reason everybody abandoned the triple.

Reynolds, I agree with you completely. I'm so sick of this offense, I can hardly describe it. You're preaching to the choir here.

Certainly a Tech fan would have a wealth of knowledge on dirty blocks, but you're just plain blind if you can't see your guy going straight for Lawrence's lower leg and knee area.

Dex is clearly engaged and the other OLman doesn't block the guy in front of him and dives straight at the BACK of Dex's legs. The ref even went to talk to him about it. Why he didn't throw the flag is beyond me.
Keep being an apologist for this kind of dirty playing. I bet Dex will have his revenge next year in Atlanta when all 340lbs of him destroys your QB. Y'all are lucky Christian or the other freaks didn't see this during the game. I hope UGA destroys you.
Get lost little bug.

I didn't catch it during the game but I went back and watched it and nearly every play the center would bump dexter high and and the left guard would "fall" into him full speed low at the knees.
Pretty much the entire first drive they would do that. Didn't need to see anymore.

I have said for years that to stop them from doing this, the following must happen
When Tech players roll into your legs, step back, once they are on the ground...jump up and drive both knees down into them. Busted ribs will put a stop to this.

"D" players can control this do unto others before they do to you go back and look at replays how over the years our Tigers have addressed the blocks Ga Tech use will not talk about the ways on here but there are 2 very quick ways a DL can address and get respect from OL

I guess the NCAA will wait until someone has a broken leg before they have a look. It is absolutely ridiculous the way the NCAA allows some teams to flagrantly violate the rules while others get hammered for the slightest violation.
