I think that Saban's call to replace his starter was less " Gutsy" as Sapakoff writes , and more of a desperation heave for the end zone . Hurts looked bad against Auburn , he wasn't very good against us without the benefit of field position being handed to him by the two interceptions .. and he was gawdawful against UGA in the first half .
No , Nicky wasn't showing his coaching prowess in the switch to TUA … he was throwing a shut eyed haymaker and hoping to connect .

He Did .

His coaches had also apparently been telling him all year that Tua was better. Nick was being stubborn...right up to the moment he got desperate.

Now he looks like a genius. I guess perception is all, you know?

He played a lot last year. I wasn’t the least bit shocked when he came in. Saban was poised to bring him in against us if our offense had done anything.

Clemson and AL were very similar last year. Both had stellar shut down. defenses that prevented their opponents from scoring at a high level. As a result, the offenses didnt have to score many points to win games. Both quarterbacks were primarily runners, with limited throwing ability down field. Letting them run the ball was the lowest risk way to win low scoring games vs throwing it deep and risking turn overs. The problem is once you get to the CFB the defenses are all very good and you can’t win with QBs that have limited ability to throw the ball down field.
