no matter what the context ... it cheapened everything they were trying to do for Lattimore and made Spurrier look a bit foolish and petty.

Even the crowd's luke warm reaction seemed a little embarrassed for Spurrier.

Not to sound like a coot but you can tell by the tone in his voice he was cracking a joke to get the crowd going. People look at the words and think he was being typical ball sac

They were there to honor a fine young player who sadly may have had his career ended ... it wasn't a freakin' Friars Club Roast ...

But Spurrier just couldn't resist getting a dig in. The joke was weak to begin with and it was totally out of place given the occasion.
