Apr 24, 2012, 8:20 AM

The Noles are BACK!
Right?
That's what we hear every year.
How about they find some offense and then we can talk.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't fault him for picking FSU, but not for the reason he

Apr 24, 2012, 8:22 AM

gives. I would say getting us at home is the reason to pick them. Our "swoon" had more to do with defensive issues and the injury to Price than anything else. It's shaping up to be a very fun season. I expect the winner of that game to win the Atlantic.

Apr 24, 2012, 8:54 AM

I expect the winner of that game to win the conference.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Good. It's always better to be the underdog.***

Re: Football Update: Athlon: CLEMSON OR FSU: WHICH TEAM WINS ATLANTIC IN 2012?

Apr 24, 2012, 8:51 AM

Just like David pollock said last fall, we have the playmakers that should be playing for FSU. They still don't have anywhere close to the firepower that we do.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Perfect! We do better when we want to prove people wrong.***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

winning the atlantic division = "reclaim ACC dominance"?

Apr 24, 2012, 8:54 AM

What can you reclaim if you win the atlantic 2 out of 3 years and also the ACC Championship one of those years?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Funny how I never see any explanations as to what FSU has

Apr 24, 2012, 8:58 AM

done to get picked above Clemson. It's almost like they think the past decade has been a fluke for them and they don't have any real concerns anywhere. Like they'll suddenly just snap out of it!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I caught some of the FSU spring game replay on EZPNU

Apr 24, 2012, 10:23 AM

last night. E J Manuel just does not impress me. At the time I tuned in, he was 20-41 for 150 yards. I watched him miss receiver after receiver. He's about as accurate as a scud missile. Their D may be a force again, but they still have problems on O, starting with the QB.

yEAH the only reason the game was so close last year,

Apr 24, 2012, 5:34 PM

was because Trickett is a better passer than Manuel, and of course the incomplete pass to the defensive end for six.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Whatever

Apr 24, 2012, 9:07 AM

If you keep picking them, odds are you will eventually be right. Kinda like roulette!

2012_pickem_champ.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh look another it's just a matter of time before everybody

Apr 24, 2012, 9:09 AM

lays down for FSU article. People really see what they want to.
1) Did they forget about FSU's late season home loss to UVA.

2) What about the fact FSU can't run the ball

3) They point out our close win last year, but what about how close the loss was the year before. A 55 yd fg in the last seconds.

FSU blah blah blah

Re: Football Update: Athlon: CLEMSON OR FSU: WHICH TEAM WINS ATLANTIC IN 2012?

Apr 24, 2012, 9:10 AM

Same song, different verse. Jimbo has been in charge at FSU for a long time, and every year they are picked at the top. That's okay. they do have great athletes, but they have under achieved under Jimbo. I hope we do fly under the radar. We will be a very special team this year, and next year (2013) should be a great one, indeed.

Apr 24, 2012, 9:16 AM

On paper, and their is a lot;If Clemson can,t stop FSUs D it will be a long day.None the less i'm still loyal to the TIGERS.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

FSU always has bigger let downs then us!

Apr 24, 2012, 9:17 AM

Every year all we hear about is them being "back" and this being "their year". Heck they started out ranked 5th last year and ended up outside the top 20. We were unranked by every service this year and finished in the top 25. Also we had a much much much harder schedule then them. They never had to play GT or VT. So who had a worse season in regards to how we started?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Same story every year, the press has a love affair w/ FSU

Apr 24, 2012, 9:19 AM

and then, as usual, FSU fails to "coach up" all that 4* talent.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Screw Calford.

He makes it too complicated. FSU should be favored for one

Apr 24, 2012, 9:26 AM

reason only, they have us at home. If we had them at home, I'd pick us, and I did last year.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-jospehg.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not enough focus on our offensive line as the major question

Apr 24, 2012, 9:35 AM

mark toward out success. If FSU surpasses us this year, I believe it will be on the offensive line, and not the defense. I expect the defense to be entirely improved next season. The o-line is the real concern. We have the best skill players-unit in the country, but if the O-line doesn't improve BIG TIME, it won't matter. Here's to hoping and praying that they do! Go Tigers!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree.***

Can someone tell me if the following is accurate:

Apr 24, 2012, 9:40 AM

On the Rivals site, looking at Florida State's depth chart to include special teams, they have 15 freshmen and sophomores listed in the starting lineup. No seniors are listed in the starting lineup. IF that is accurate and, they win the division, I will concede that FSU is back.

But that can't be accurate. Can it?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In the starting lineup?

Apr 24, 2012, 9:48 AM

Heck, they don't have any seniors listed on that entire page of around 70 players! I think their young team gives us more of an advantage.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly.

Apr 24, 2012, 9:58 AM

I agree with you. Like I said, if they win the division, I, and everybody here, will have to face up to the fact that they are back. Time will tell.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: In the starting lineup?

Apr 24, 2012, 9:59 AM [ in reply to In the starting lineup? ]

I believe you have to increase every players' class by one year for this coming fall.

As an example EJ Manuel will be a senior in the fall.

badge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

null

Re: In the starting lineup?

Apr 24, 2012, 10:07 AM

Even then, they will have 10 sophomores, which seems too much for a division winner, in my opinion.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They won't beat us, so the point will be moot anyway

Apr 24, 2012, 10:10 AM

They're hype machine will collapse again this year. :)

Apr 24, 2012, 10:11 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In fairness, FSU is the "logical" pick...

Apr 24, 2012, 9:42 AM

1. Our showdown game will be in Tally.

2. Our meltdown in the late season has been addressed, but not proven to be corrected.

3. The outside world assumes we'll "pull a Clemson."

Defeat the Noles in Tally and all three of these "logical" reasons will be buried in Osceola's grave.

badge-donor-20yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-revdodd.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I like how people assume the ACC comes down to 1 game.

Apr 24, 2012, 9:57 AM

I love our schedule this year. FSU is our only tough "true" road game this year. BC, Wake, and Duke are arguably our 3 easiest ACC games and we get them all on the road.

On the flip side, Clemson is the only tough game FSU gets at home. They get BC, Wake, and Duke all at home while having to go on the road to Miami, to NC State (where FSU just loves to play), Blacksburg on a Thursday night for VT, and at Maryland.

Considering we are the defending ACC champs and we have a whole lotta firepower returning, this schedule scenario is why I give us the edge!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thing is, if we beat them we have the tie-breaker. I think

Apr 24, 2012, 10:31 AM

that pretty much seals the deal. I could see us losing one conference game. 7-1 wins the Atlantic.

I agree and I think FSU loses 2 of those road games***

Apr 24, 2012, 10:38 AM

Good point: a loss to NC State hurts either team ...

Apr 24, 2012, 11:49 AM [ in reply to I like how people assume the ACC comes down to 1 game. ]

...and the Wuffies won't be pushovers.

Tat said, it's easy to see why folks get ensnared with the "winner take all" vision of our game.

Very true***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

To be fair, they do have a lot to like on D. If they can

Apr 24, 2012, 11:39 AM

give Manuel a LOT of protection, he can hurt you. I don't fear their O, but that D has teeth.

keep disrespecting us. We can't blame anyone. We are probably the most famous school in the country for inconsistency.

That coupled with the knowledge that FSU has

Apr 24, 2012, 4:32 PM

as much talent an anyone in the country and I'd need points to bet on either team. Gimme 8 and I take either team.
