Finally we have some accountability from the pros

Oct 18, 2018, 12:42 PM

I don’t care if we lose talent. Take the players who do not want to be student athletes and stop asking for a hand out.

They pay much better and players don't have to pay taxes. Uncle Sam will make sure to get his cut of G-league money.

That would be a substantial pay cut for some of these student(ahem)/athletes!

Even assuming that top prospects are not getting some under the table money, I think the national exposure one can get from playing college basketball for a year still outweighs the benefits of this G-league option.

Honestly, this may work better for a lower ranked prospect to go ahead and get into the league rather than play 4-years of college ball.

That is the point I want to see proven out for these "Pay for play" proponents. 125k is nothing compared to the exposure you get while playing college. Universities give you an opportunity to learn your craft and give you exposure to future employers. Students who want to play professional sports should be no different than every other student.

It could work. Especially for kids who don't even want to pretend to go to class. Besides pro scouts will find you if you are good enough. The best players don't have to have the college exposure, especially the 1 & done.
