I enjoy listening to him, but I don't agree with much of what he says. He definitely isn't good for America though. Someone will take his spot there with the same type of divisive rhetoric. They'll probably be worse.

but people like Rush Limbaugh make me question why I came up with that arbitrary personal guideline.

go through that.
But what we are seeing now is the culmination of his life's work of hate and divisiveness through a microphone.
Good riddance.
But like the poster above said, he will and already has been replaced by people much worse than him.

Credit where due. He is a master of his craft.

It may seem like he's just telling the "deplorables" what they want to hear, but there's more to it than that. Rush is a master on the mic and there is NO ONE in talk radio land who compares. There actually will NOT be another to take his place.
Has he been good for the country?
No. He has emboldened people who have done great harm to our country - this goes all the way back to Timothy McVeigh.
But he is "good" at what he does.

The person that fills the void that is left by him will probably be much more extreme. It seems that is the way the country is going. I agree though whoever replaces him will not be as talented. It's like replacing Vin Scully.

I still remember the turn on his show...

he started out attacking all the ways that GHW Bush failed to live up to to Reagan promise. He was anti-democrat of course, but did a pretty good job being truly funny with his attacks. Clinton enraged him somewhat, but I still think the moment he realized exactly who his core audience was was the day of the Rodney King verdict. I was driving to Charleston and he was railing against the verdict and talking about how unfair it was and how we had all seen how bad it was with our own eyes. Then the calls started coming in and one after the other was some variation of, he got what he deserved, the cops are just doing their job, he should have stopped for the first blue light, i.e. the beating was well deserved and the jury was right on. By the end of the hour he had completely changed his own thoughts and I don't think his show was ever truly funny without being really nasty and mean spirited after that day.

Still blows my mind that anybody sided with the cops in the Rodney King case.
