I hope they have a lot of salt for that crow they're going to be eating.

They need to place a lot more emphasis on HEART!

Wonder where they ranked Clowney on their scale?
Great "athleticism" will only get your so far. Especially if you're spending all your time on the bench hurt.
If Shaq was unable to demonstrate his athleticism to the fullest late last season, he certainly made up for it by showing everyone how much "heart" he has.
The team that drafts him is getting a great football player who will show up on the field week in and week out.

My prediction is he will be an epic DE in the NFL. You go, Shaq!

Folks think Shaq is a 4.8/40 guy. They're gonna be stunned

to find out he's a 4.5-4.6 guy at the combine. He probably won't bench as much as people think though.

As much as I hope you're right, I would be completely shocked if he was able to run something in the 4.5 range. If you look at all the DE prospects since the combine started using computer timed 40's about 15 years ago, the fastest time I've ever seen posted by a DE is 4.53. Two players were able to post that number—Vic Beasley and Jadaveon Clowney. I think there was one guy a few years back coming out of Georgia that played LB and DE in college that ran somewhere in the 4.4's, but he wasn't being considered as a future DE in the NFL.
I think that anything from the low 4.6's to the high 4.7's would pleasantly surprise just about every single one of the scouts that has been evaluating him. I think you're right about them likely having him listed as either a 4.8-4.9 guy.

I went back and checked the numbers for the NFL combine

After looking at the numbers posted on their website over the past 10 years, there were actually a total of 4 guys who put up faster times than Beasley and Clowney's 4.53—Manny Lawson, Dontay Moch, Marcus Howard, and Bruce Irvin. All four of them were moved to LB after being drafted. Beasley and Clowney have also been used at LB in the NFL.
After looking at the 40 times of the players that moved onto the NFL and stayed at DE, there have only been two future NFL DE's that have run a 4.5—Larry Webster (4.58 at 252 lbs) and Danielle Hunter (4.57 at 252 lbs). Shaq is much bigger than either of these guys and will probably weigh in somewhere close to 280 lbs.

With an MCL strain like Shaq has / had the biggest issue is always the lateral motion. Unfortunately, when it comes time for the position-specific drills, defensive linemen are tested in a variety of laterally-intensive motions.
Prayers for big Shaq. Hope he comes in strong & healthy (and the NY Giants are smart enough to take him over Ogbah & Buckner with pick 10!)
