Didn't transferring used to be harder?

May 15, 2019, 11:48 AM

Like you had to show some significant change in circumstances as to why you wanted to transfer? Seems like now it's far more common and far easier to do. I'm not faulting the players for taking advantage of whatever the law allows, I just don't remember transferring being as commonplace as it is now.

I think part of what you're seeing is so many of the players are enrolling early and graduating in 3 years. This allows them to transfer with immediate eligibility (without any kind of hardship waiver or whatever Justin Fields and others have claimed).

Some of those graduates even have 2 years of eligibility remaining if they redshirted... it's hard to fault someone for trying to better their situation if they think they can.

Much harder. The rule change has created a revolving door.***
