Texas is one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country & there's more money in Austin than they know what to do with. Texas has to be one of the 5-10 easiest schools to win a national championship at and has resources that only Alabama and Oregon (and maybe Ohio State) can even sniff at.

not a better job than Ohio St or Bama

Art Briles has it rolling with a brand new stadium at Baylor....the NFL guys have ONE owner to deal with...not thousands/boosters. It's a good job but not what it was now that Baylor and A&M are rolling. They don't get to pick the kids like they used to.

According to the 247 composite, the last 4 years Texas has had the #4, #2, #17, and currently has the #11 class despite the Mack Brown issues.
You bring in a big name coach and get excitement around the program and they finish solidly within the top 10 this year again.
I agree with your NFL argument, although their coaches answer to fans to an extent as well.

They'll look for reason to eliminate guys from that list.

The possibility that Dabo might bring Chad and Brent with him will keep him on the list long enough to get a conversation.

If Dabo left we'd give Chad the job
Dec 13, 2013, 11:58 AM

he'd make more here as a HC than at Texas as an OC, plus he'd have the title.
Also, I have a feeling Venables hates Texas after all those years at KState and Oklahoma.

As far as I can tell, Mack Brown is still there. Until he is officially out of a job all of this talk is absurd.

They must not be aware how unqualified Dabo actually is, that he is little more than a cheerleader who stumbled across some good assistants, embarrasses his school with emotional outbursts and rants, can't beat his rival, has teams that fold in big games, and so on. Yeah, he's a decent recruiter, but can't actually coach a lick.
If the Texas Longhorn people would spend a little time on T-Net, they'd sure learn a thing or two.

Dabo is worthy of consideration for ANY HC job that comes open! He has done a great job at Clemson. Anyone who says something different is either ignorant or just enjoys "stirring the pot" for his own narcissistic pleasure. Of course, we get that kind of cr#p from Coots on this board as well.

Wasn't Tommy Bowden going to Arkansas? The same can be said for Dabo to Texas.

Elsewise the UT AD or President would have made a statement other than, "We are meeting with Brown later this week," and, "A decision will be made by then." As opposed to, "he ain't going nowhere."
Brown's agent and lawyer are fishing for the most money they can get out of this.

There are hundreds of football coaches in America, 17 is a short list.
I know, you're one of those that hate Dabo so have to somehow make an excuse for his name even being mentioned.
