Couple Recruiting Questions

Chez Mellusi is listed as 6’0” 175 lbs on Rivals but 6’1” 205 lbs on 247. Wondering which is correct? That’s a big difference.

David Hood lists Brannon Spector as 4* but he is listed as 3* on both Rivals and 247. Is he a 4* on some other recruiting site?

After watching his film I’d be shocked if Mellusi was only 175 so I’m assuming that’s an old weight maybe from one of their camps?

I use the 247 composite where Spector is a 3 star but ESPN or Scout could have him as a 4. I think he’s kind of in that fringe area.

Mellusi looks like a great fit for this offense.

Good responses - thanks! Another question I’ve always wondered about is why kickers including punters are never - as far as I have seen - rated above 3*? Seems like the best one at least should be 4 or 5*......

Pretty sure Pinion was a fairly high 4 and you see he could leave as a JR and be one of the first punters drafted in the draft for years. Tells you how good he actually was or still is! Wish we had him for next couple games.

Wish we had Pinion for the next couple games too! When I saw his name I thought yep - he was a 4*. But just checked and he was 3* on both Rivals and 247. Think we have a good punter coming in next year - but he is a 3* also - and one of the top rated in the country......

I saw that his Mom was an alumni and I started getting real happy a few months back. No matter the stars, I read on some site that his specialty was placing the ball just right such as to leave the other guys starting out on their own 5 yard line...

Swanson is a big-footed lefty as well - the ball spins

different than righties so already somewhat an advantage for coverage teams. We might be in great shape there for a few years to come.

Most of it is because it’s hard to differentiate between high school kickers unless it’s glaringly obvious and because the ranking services have enough on their plate ranking the 10000 field players or however many there are.

Most of the rankings for specialists come from different kicking camps and they vary pretty greatly based on which ones you go to. So you will almost never see a kicker get 4 stars, and rarely they’re even 3 stars at least on a composite system.
