as much as drinking problems. USC-Eastern would prefer to have their students drinking downtown at the Vista with its higher property and hospitality taxes. Two dirty secrets about USC-E and the City of Columbia:(1) Both the "Gamecock Club" and USC-E get money(supposedly reserved for bars, eating places, museums, and hotels) from the Hospitality Tax Fund for(supposedly) bringing people into Columbia for sporting events to spend money; (2) USC-E does not build enough parking for commuter students and gets a kickback from the city for parking tickets in the University area which is quite profitable to both.
PS The State paper is in on it and reports crime statistics from Five Points more frequently than those from the Vista. How many people reading about the shooting of the Kentucky student came away with the idea that it happened in Five Points instead of the Vista where it actually occurred?
