" The Gamecocks are fully invested in the tribute to their 1980's glory days " .

I wanted to put quotations around " 1980's glory days " but wasn't sure if you can quotation inside of other quotation marks .

Anyway . 1980's glory days ?? LMAO at that notion . What a bunch of characters we have for rivals . Do they ever hear themselves talking about themselves ?
I wish I knew how to deny reality as well as a Coot . They're living in mass denial and a sort of ignorant bliss and I am a little bit envious .

Sorry, I can't help it. My mother was an English teacher.

Their "1980's glory days" are marked by one of the most epic fails in college football.

In the computer world, I think we had to use 4 sets of quotation marks to make one quotation mark appear on a screen or report. """" = " Go figure. Not sure how they came up with that. Sorry, very old computer geek that might not remember everything.

The modern version of that (in Excel) is to precede numbers with a ' in order to make them appear as text.

Is that "throwback", or "throw up"?

Seems about the same when it comes to those unis.

the throw back unis look better than that arena league-like crap they've been wearing for the last several years.

They had one decent team in 1984 (a team that lost to Clemson). Otherwise, their teams from the 80's were all mediocre at best.

1980: 8 - 4

1981: 6 - 6 (lost to Pacific)

1982: 4 - 7 (lost to Duke and Furman)

1983: 5 - 6

1984: 10 - 2 (lost to Navy)

1985: 5 - 6

1986: 3 - 6

1987: 8 - 4

1988: 8 - 4

1989: 6 - 4

They also went 2 - 7 - 1 against Clemson during that decade.

Glory days indeed !!!!

You forgot that there were ZERO bowl wins during this decade as well.

Missing the 2 ties in 86 (VT & CU) and one tie in 89 (VT).

1984 was the year they started that run of 10 win seasons. Unfortunately (for them) it ended in 1985!

Pretty sure they did beat us in '84***

The article referenced both "Black Magic" and "Black Death". In today's world, "Black Death" is a very bad look for a number reasons but what do you expect coming out of Columbia?

I hope they play Alabama in the afternoon with those black unis. They will have another reason for their behinds drag plowing furrows in the field. and there is not artificial turf now. Their groundskeeper actually uses that mower they bought in the 80's.

Well they are kind of like a plague on college football.

That was during their steroid scandal. I was a student back then and made a t-shirt with a cartoon of a syringe on it labeled "black magic" when they came to campus to play. I thought it was pretty funny.

Too Much Magic for Me

"The black jersey channels the Gamecocks’ most successful decade (prior to Steve Spurrier’s run from 2010-13) when Todd Ellis, Sterling Sharpe, Harold Green, Robert Brooks and their teammates employed a dizzying Run ‘n’ Shoot offense that blew out scoreboard lights."

They must have been some kinda good to blow out scoreboard lights..... wow! Dizzying, indeed!

Have to give them credit for trying. Forward does not look
