Was as dramatic and unexpected as the win Texas Western got in 1966 when they defeated UK for the basketball crown
How many Tigers watched that game? That win changed college basketball forever. imo

UK/UTEP game

I was 12 years old at that time, and I watched that game. I would say it was more shocking and significant historically, because an all black team with no signficant national name or following defeated an all white University of Kentucky team coached by legendaryAdolph Rupp that everyone thought was unbeatable. Coastal's win was certainly an upset and quite significant, but I certainly thought they had a decent chance to win. Almost no one thought UTEP had a chance in 1966.

The fact that Coastal was far from being a national seed in the tourney makes me think that their win was unexpected by most fans.. I certainly was expecting a higher ranked team to win and most of the 'experts thought so too
