Clemson's 1st String Defense has given up 1 TD since the UNC

Nov 19, 2019, 10:03 AM

game. Against Boston College: early in the 2nd QTR on a drive where BC needed TWO 4th Down conversions on 1 drive to score their only points of the game.

-FSU scored their 14 points down 42-0 starting on the last play of the 3Q
-Louisville didn't find the End-zone until 5 minutes left in the game.
-already mentioned BC
-Wofford didnt get on the board until it was 49-0 in the 2nd Half
-NC State was down 42-0 at home at Halftime. We started sub'n on Defense in the 2nd QTR
-Wake scored 3 Points. That means 0 TDs

Further proof that the CFPC is clueless in their evaluations.

While I love this stat I always wonder how they determine that our second team defense is in the game.

On offense it is pretty much called second team whenever we decide to change the QB even though we have backup WRs, RBs, and linemen rotating in frequently with Trevor on the field.

On defense we rotate players so often, and there are some starters on the field when teams are scoring, how do we determine what string was playing when points were scored?

For example, I believe Wallace and Muse were in when NC State had their long TD run. Is it considered 2nd string if there are 6 or more reserves on the field or what?

Again I love the stat, but I am curious how they determine these "TDs vs the starters" stats.

I agree. We sub the d-line VERY early, linebackers later,

then VERY late in the secondary. Don't know what's "second string" on defense!

he should have said 1st and 2nd team Defense

it's our 3rd and 4th teams that get scored on ever so slightly more that our 1st and 2nd team

That's exactly how is it Neal, We substitute players from the start of the game. It's not until we get down to 3rd and 4th string that the other teams start moving the ball. Now if you notice we still play some 1st string players deep into the game but they are very few. You may see 1 or 2 in the final minutes of every game but a majority of the players on the field are 3rd and 4th string. No one really notices when the second team players are on the field because they are held to the same standard and perform at the same level as the starters. That's the reason come playoff time our players are completely fresh and ready to take down the opposition.
