MY ROOM WAS PAINTED ORANGE WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. HAD THE KICK MY FRAT BROTHER DAVID TREADWELL MADE AGAINST GEORGIA ON A POSTER BESIDE MY BED. (I WAS A KID BUT WE WERE BOTH SAE'S. MET HIM AT A PARTY.) LIFE SIZE POSTER OF THE FRIDGE IN FRONT OF A REFRIGERATOR. A FANATIC TO SAY THE LEAST. I HAVE A PICTURE HANGING IN MY HALL WITH DANNY FORD WHEN I WAS AT CLEMSON FOOTBALL CAMP IN 1983. MOST IMPROVED OFFENSIVE LINEMAN CERTIFICATE FRAMED. BRINGS BACK A LOT OF GOOD MEMORIES. I REMEMBER WHEN WE TIED UVA AND I GOT STACY "RICOCHET RABBIT" DRIVER'S AUTOGRAPH. STILL HAVE MY FOOTBALL CAMP HAT WITH JIM STUCKEY , DANNY, PERRY, PERRY TUTTLE......... MY GRANDFATHER IS IN ATHLETIC HOF, REMEMBER WHEN HE GOT INDUCTED I GOT TO SIT BESIDE JERRY BUTLER AND HIS WIFE IN PRESIDENTS BOX. AWE STRUCK.RAMBLING BUT I JUST LOVE ME SOME CLEMSON FOOTBALL.
GO FREAKING TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!

I had Farrah on the wall in a red swim suit. I love Clemson football, but hot foxes win out to me.

A great piece by Larry Williams. True and honest account including all our shortcomings.

Thank you for posting this. This brought back a lot of memories for me about Clemson football. I joined Iptay and got season tickets back in the early 80's. Enjoyed many a game in DV. Good times.

One thing I remember is the first winning field goal

David Treadwell kicked. It was against Va Tech in the first game of the 85 season in Blacksburg.I was listening to the game on the radio with my brother as we were going somewhere in his car.Treadwell missed the field goal to win with time running out and it looked like a tie game but there was a flag and Treadwell got a second chance. He made the second attempt , the ball barely crossing the crossbar! but it was a nice win and it put an end to the time on probation.

You’re right that Treadwell made the first field goal of his life on the second attempt at VT. However, both of the kicks IN THE VIDEO are against Georgia in consecutive years.

Did Harris end up with positive yards? Certainly ruined his chances of going early to NFL that year

I am very very proud to have been there in the stands for most of the games during Coach Ford's tenure. From Ohio State, to Notre Dame, to Georgia (many times), to Nebraska, Stanford, Penn State, Oklahoma, FSU and through 6 ACC Championship Seasons in 11 years, I was blessed to have experienced The Ford years. It's hard to put that era in perspective now, but coming from a 20 year bowl drought, coming from 8 losing seasons in the nine years following 1968 when I started school, the Ford Era turnaround was almost too good to be true. We are better now than then, but the program today was built on the foundation Coach Ford laid.
Not enough gets said or written about the quality off the field of the guys who played for Coach Ford. The 81 team produced two college football hall of fame players, a member of the Clemson BOT, bank executives, pastors, business executives, and leaders off the field for Clemson, the region and the communities where those men lived. I salute Coach Ford, his players and the will to win he brought to Clemson.
Thanks Coach Ford. We all owe you a lot.

I was a Junior at Clemson and watched the game in my apartment in Clemson. I couldn't afford to go to the game. We went downtown after the game it is was awesome. Great times.
