Clemson- Overdue for Reality Check

This board sounds an awful lot like Michigan State's before they played Alabama. Common themes:
- disrespected all year
- We play with a chip on our shoulder
- This is our destiny
- ESPN is delusional (At least you have Danny Kanell on your side...)
Watson is the best quarterback in the country. However games are won in the trenches and I assure you Clemson's offensive line has not seen a group half as talented as Bama's defensive line (Don't tell me Florida State). Your offensive scheme involving misdirection/speed will present problems for Alabama but will only amount to 10-17 points in the game. Although offensive schemes similar to Clemson's have given Bama trouble in the past, don't forget to factor in your o line getting blown off the line of scrimmage. In recent years, Alabama has recruited faster players up front to combat the spread in addition to a better coverage secondary. The addition of Jeremy Pruitt will also help with Alabama's defensive game plan.
Much like the offense, Clemson's defense has plenty of NFL talent but does not stack up with Alabama. These are the two best teams in the Country and this should be a great game. Dabo's lack of composure will be the downfall.

Didn't Clemson dismiss their swim teams? Teams evolve over the course of the season so don't put too much stock in game 3. Consider Ohio State last season. And if Bama plays like they did against Ole Miss, they lose this game.

The Oklahoma D line is mediocre at best. Striker is fast but undersized and has trouble getting off blocks. Tapper is decent but look at the talent disparity between the two teams. Bama has 3 first round draft picks this season and several ready for future drafts. Where are the Oklahoma players projected?

Sure thing. Win or lose. Pruitt and Steele shouldn't be used in the same sentence. Pruitt went over to Florida State the year they won the ACC and National Championship and lead the number 1 rated defense. Pruitt will prove to be a great pick up with recruiting as well. I think Venables is very good though also.

someone that has had the success/spoils Bama has had these recent years. No doubt your DL is great, but I think we still have a chance.
If our coaching staff sets up Deshaun for the quick slants and mixes in enough run to keep you DBs honest (and Leggett and Peake don't drop passes), we'll get our points. Even if we don't score a TD every time, we need to sustain drives, eliminate turnovers, and keep our D fresh and off the field.
I think what YOU don't realize is you have not faced a defense like ours all year. While Ole Miss may have talent on their DL, they don't have the LBs or especially the DBs we do. I think you may be very surprised how hard it is to get your points. I think the first team to 27 points wins the game.

Louisville was a hungry team with their backs on the wall and at their house on a Thursday nice.
The next week we were scheduled to be lugubrious after playing Notre Dame.
Then GT was the "reality check" because they beat us last year.
Then on the road against a talented Miami team.
Then NCSU was the classic "trap" road game.
Then FSU had too much talent.
Then Oklahoma was the type of team we'd "never seen before".
We'll see how it goes but there's nothing new or interesting about the "Clemson isn't ready for this" smack. We've been hearing it all year.
Plus, "DabolovesBama" screams Gamecock troll.

Alabama has a great team, but their style of play is outdated. You can beat teams that are inferior or that run the same style as you, but whenever you play a decent team with modern, up-tempo playing style, y'all get exposed. Going to be a good game, but you can't ride Clemson off. Reality check - Alabama isn't the best football program isn't the best football program in the nation anymore. Past championships won't win you this one.

There style of play WAS outdated. Why do you think they brought in Lane Kiffin? On defense they made several personal changes for this exact reason. We'll get to see exactly how far they have come in this game. This will be a great challenge. I think these are the two that want a championship the most and have the talent to back it up (unless MSU)

The difference between MSU and Clemson is we can complete a forward pass. We didn't have to squeak by OSU and Michigan with last second wins.

even though BC has the #1 total defense in the country....
They had that plan. Loaded up against the run with their #2 ranked rushing defense. And it worked sorta. DW was held to 11/32 rushing.
But he also passed for 420 and 3 TDs on the #6 ranked passing defense.
Pick your poison. It's going to be tough. I'll tell you this much....if Bama wins they had better score 27+ AND play some lights out defense.

Hey Chad Kelly is pretty legitimate. Watson is much better but Kelly has superior receivers with height.
Here are his numbers vs Bama:
18-33, 341 YDS, 3 TD
66 yards was the fluke play to Quincy Adeboyejo and on the 73 yard pass to Cody Core there was illegal blocking 5 yards down the field. So 139 of those 341 and 2 out of the 3 touchdowns were bs. Treadwell owned our smaller corner on the other touchdown. There is no telling what happens on those drives without these plays but they were highly lucky. It probably sounds like I'm making excuses but you probably didn't watch the game if you think that.

I'm not comparing Clemson to MSU because Clemson is a much better overall team but MSU had a solid front seven. Nothing like Shaq (but he is also banged up..) but still some sold guys. Mac is a great corner. Kearse has great build and length but I was surprised to see him miss a few tackles against Oklahoma. I obviously know of Boulware but not a whole lot about your linebacker corps

He is more mobile than you think and actually was a good varsity basketball player. And he usually falls forward being he is about 6'6 and 235. He has ran through a few guys with year. He does make a few bad decisions every now and then but the frequency is significantly down. Hopefully Watson runs out of bounds/slides to avoid some big hits. I would be more worried about your quarterback as he is more important to your team.

This is a very conditioned team that rotates many players. They have rested for weeks in and played in one game where the starters were out by the 4th quarter. They should be fresh unlike the TN game which you guys love to reference

Well luckily I'm not playing the game. The team should be much more focused.
1. Johnny Manziel hit those numbers in 2012 but yeah we lost. He came close in 2013 but fell a little short on the rushing yards. Did throw for 4,114 though. I'm not really sure beyond that. I'm sure Newton had great numbers. Tebow was close to those in 2009. But who really cares? Look how many titles we have won without a quarterback with great numbers. I'll take a defense and running game every time.
2. We have played better defenses than Clemson. Total yards: Wisconsin #2, Georgia #5, LSU #10, Florida #12
3. Coker has been solid as of late. 8 picks on the year but none in his last 4 games. 6 picks came in the first 6 games so he has only thrown 2 in the last 8 games.

The NCAA doesn't play those games with Total Yards. Defenses are ranked based on total yards PER GAME so that LSU's 12-game season doesn't make them look like champions compared with Clemson, Alabama, and Florida who have played 14 games (so far). These are the official ranks from the NCAA.

For the season, the most offensive plays by an opponent was 87 vs Miss St. We defended a total of 878 plays this season which amounts to an average of 62.7 plays/game. Like Clemson, we have done a great job of forcing teams to go 3 and out. I think we are ranked 1 and 2 in the country for 3 and out percentage. It will be very important for Bama's defense to make stops early and get off the field

I realize and recognize that. The fact is MSU is just like LSU, Arkansas, Wisconsin and Georgia. It was a horrible match up. You will not run on Alabama using a conventional style. We all agree Clemson is better on both sides of the ball and brings different looks that have given Bama trouble. All I am saying is this Bama team is different.

Saban is fairly settled in Alabama. Has a lot of family in the area like Birmingham and seems to like Tuscaloosa. The tornadoes brought him closer to the community. Plus he already draws an incredible pay check. Kiffin won't ever be the HC

If Alabama was to lose the national championship, I would prefer it be to Clemson over any team in the country. You guys run a clean and respectable program unlike teams such as the barn and FSU. And how can I not like Dabo as an Bama fan? Dabo has one of the best success stories in sports based on his upbringing. He is a hardworking class act and has exceeded all expectations. However, some people on this board don't understand playful banter/football discussions outside their own opinions. This is an internet board... Relax. No matter what happens Monday there is no doubt I will be rooting for Clemson to crush the barn and for our teams meet again next year in the playoffs
