Chris Patton

Jun 28, 2018, 2:16 PM

He received an exemption into the US Senior Open. Chris plays very little golf now and had to get some new clubs because his old clubs were no longer legal under the square grooves ruling. He said he hasn't played competively for 14 years. What a way to return to competition.

So what has Chris been doing this last decade or so?

I believe he runs his family's farm. His son is on the Clemson golf team.

the year after he won the US Am. Very nice young man and we discussed some folks we mutually knew from Simpsonville. Glad to see his son is playing at Clemson.

I think his home course years ago was Carolina Springs near Simpsonville. Played it a few times and lived near it off E. Georgia Rd for a couple of years before moving to NC. Interesting to learn he'll compete in the Senior Open.

I saw a few minutes of him on the broadcast yesterday and he looked a little disheveled. Had his shirt out all the way around and looked exhausted. The sound was down at first but when it came on the announcers were laughing but in a good way.

If you go to the USGA website there is a great interview with Chris. I think he was 11 over in the first round but be is not in last place. I just hope Chris has a great time out there with his son.
