Matthews said if Bernie were in charge, he'd be executed in Central Park.

Bernie is further left than the current British Labour.

So Bernie had a mild heart attack that required a stint....

Feb 19, 2020, 11:00 PM

I went for a catheterization and when I came through after sedation, the cardiologist tells me I have ~50% blockage in an artery on the aortic side of my heart... I asked if he had put a stint in... He tells me that at 50%, the insurance company won't pay for it. I asked how bad did it need to be... 70%... They want you almost 3/4 of the way to a heart attack before they even let a doctor help you when it would have only taken a few more minutes.

Keep defending those Baztards...

I used to work in a hospital.

Feb 19, 2020, 11:07 PM

I never saw anyone get turned away for treatment due to insurance, or lack of it. Actually..that's against the law per the 1986 EMTALA law (The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act).

It's doubtful to me that a doctor would start a procedure, determine a correct course of action, then defer to the insurance company mid-procedure, then sew you up and send you on your way.

Re: I used to work in a hospital.

Feb 19, 2020, 11:15 PM

hospitals were very generous with my mother, great care too

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not saying that the Dr didn't do whatever

Feb 19, 2020, 11:18 PM

Solos felt he should do. But whatever was done, it wasn't done because of insurance, or the lack of it.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dude, I was totally under... I didn't know anything about it

Feb 19, 2020, 11:24 PM

other than what I was told post-op... The doctor told me the insurance chit.

By the way... Blue Cross / Blue Shield

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I tend to doubt that, honestly.

Feb 19, 2020, 11:27 PM

The Dr probably felt that rather than an invasive surgery, it could be handled better, using a different method. It probably had more to do with this:

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Quite frankly, I don't give a flying F what you doubt. I

Feb 19, 2020, 11:40 PM

know what happened and what I was told by a very well respected cardiologist... He kept my father-in-law alive years past what he thought possible and he didn't hesitate to use stints on him... 14 to be exact. Different people, different situation...but the same doctor.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You don't have to be overweight, or even out of shape to

Feb 20, 2020, 11:41 AM

have high cholesterol.

I always post this, but mummies have been found in Greenland that died in their 30's that had the starting of heart disease. They were hunter gathers who had a diet rich in fish and Omega 3 fatty acids. The same stuff they say stave off heart disease now.

Heart disease is indicative of being human. Eventually, everyone will get it. Genetics play a higher role than anything if you die from it.

Point being..your doctor treated you for what you had...not what you thought you needed. Personally I'd rather take the pills and exercise more, than having something in my artery that could break off and instantly kill me, but you do you.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Less than ~70% blockage, no stint... Insurance rules.

Feb 19, 2020, 11:20 PM [ in reply to I used to work in a hospital. ]

There wasn't an "emergency"... at least not yet. I had at least a 10 minute conversation with him about it on my post-op check back. As he explained, it's insurance mandated.

That said, though retired, I work 35-40 hours a week minimum completely renovating a house for my son... for free. Good exercise, tho.

My check-up last month went great... 126 over 80 BP is probably better than when I was in my 50s...
