Bama and FSU are the two best teams in NCAA football

but Bama cannot play in the game or else it would be perceived that the regular season (particularly November) games are meaningless.

Bama - suck it up.

I would say

that the best team in the country rarely wins the NC in basketball or baseball. It happens more often in football than in any other major sport. In football however the runner-up team is not always 2nd best.

Why do you say they are the best?
Dec 6, 2013, 12:43 PM

Bama struggled on offense against Va Tech. Bama struggled against a Texas A&M team that finished 8-4. Bama struggled against Miss St. Bama LOST to Auburn who also has only 1 loss which was early in the year. Mizzouri's only loss came in double OT with their back-up QB.
FSU speaks for themselves this year so there is only 1 spot left but I don't think Bama should get the nod that easy.

Would you favor Missouri over Alabama on a neutral field?

I feel that Mizzou would have a slight advantage on offense. I think Mizzou can slow down the Bama run game considerably and it would come down to their secondary vs the Bama receivers and McCarron. We will know a lot more after this weekend. If Bama were in this game it would be hard for me to pick Mizzou but that would mean Bama did not lose last week either.
My main point was that it should not simply be given to Bama just because of their name. There are reasons why Bama could be #2 but they are not an obvious choice as the second best team in the country.

However, I do think they may be one of the two best teams in the country.

Bama beat VT by 25 and held MSU to 7 and still won

that game by 13. Yeah they did struggle against A&M and I'm not big on Bama's CBs which is why i believe they struggled in that game, but not many teams can really exploit that.
Also, Auburn struggled against Washington St, Miss St, Ole Miss, A&M, and UGA.
Missouri had a close scrape with A&M too.
What was your point again?

that Bama is not the obvious second best team in the country. Sure an argument could be made for them, but an argument could be made for Auburn, Missouri, and maybe even a stretch for Ohio State as well.

Bama may have beat VT by 25 but VT had more yards on Offense. If VT had a decent QB the score would have been a lot closer and VT probably would have won. Too Tall Logan threw a pick six and Bama a 2 special teams TD's. Put a decent QB in there and VT would have punted less and Bama would not have had as many chances to run the Punt return or the Pick Six. Bama is far from the second best team in the country and I'm hoping Clemson can prove that come Orange Bowl time.

I agree with you on this. You have to prove it on the field. But Auburn is not your typical one loss team. They really should be a 3 loss team if not for the golden horse shoe up the butt.
While the UGA game was not as important, that was just pure luck.

Best O and best D. Period. Can they lose? Sure, but the chances are pretty slim. I've posted it for weeks... FSU -6 1/2 against anybody.

I feel that still would not be getting the credit they deserve had we not given them such a giant win in our game.
If we play well in that game and lose by 10 then I think they are currently making the same arguments that OSU is.

FSU maybe the best team this year but as just a fan I would like to see a game between them and Auburn. Just to see if AU can pull another miracle out their.....
As a coot, I agree the public is tired of the SEC and wants to see new faces so that will not happen unless it gets really wierd this weekend.

Auburn and Michigan State win and you get your wish.
I personally think FSU matches up better with Bama, Missouri, and OSU than they do with Auburn. About the only weakness FSU has shown is that teams can run on them a little at times.

2 top 25 (BCS) teams. FSU has a win against 1. Ohio St has a win against 1. Auburn has 3.
I don't believe FSU has the best team in the country unless they beat Auburn. That said, if OS wins tomorrow, they deserve their spot in the fine BCS system and should play for the NC.

Miami was #7 when FSU beat them. Their best player broke his ankle in that game and they didn't win another game.
Auburn beat Washington State by a small margin and Bama beat Miss St by 13. FSU's closest game was by 4 scores.
