Bad Snap

Sep 22, 2014, 4:46 PM

I haven't seen this addressed anywhere else, so I'll address it here. The bad snap was caused by the intentional off sides play before the bad snap play. It is a play that has been around for years. I saw it used by HS teams in the 60's. There is nothing to lose by jumping off sides on your own 1 foot line. It's a half the distance to the goal penalty each time so you will never reach the goal. A defense teams will intentionally jump off sides two or three times, really popping the center. This really rattles the center and when they don't jump the ball goes sailing. I would bet that is what the call was by FS. If you look at the film you can see the FS defense jump as soon as the center picks the ball up. Before the count started. Morris should have coached this. It's high school!

he may have.still in heat of battle its easy to slip up. I played center in HS. O-Line is hardest position to play and center is hardest on O-line, esp with shotgun

it was caused by 2 things...

1) the lineman's off sides the pay prior..

and

2) truthfully, he had been snapping high quite a bit prior to it. Several times, DW had to keep jumping up to get the ball from the snap....the whole time I kept thinking..."quit snapping high...quit snapping high"...then what I feared happened.

Dead on...I text a friend of mine that was watching the game and said the center had been snapping high on almost every snap and it was only a matter of time before he launched one over Deshaun's head...was hoping it wouldn't happen at the worst of all times, as it did. That was a killer.

Interesting post and something I never considered.
I didn't play HS football; but that head play is wily, it seems to me.
Norton was nailed on that prior penalty; but (here comes Mr. Obvious) the center has to suck it up and take that hit again! An intimidated center!?
TAKE THE HIT, Ryan!!! Make the play!!!
The hike was HS………………..
…the kicks? JV. That's another matter.

That's really bad when the #1 team in the country has to blind side their opponents center to get an advantage. But like Dimbo said, we know how to win. I bet that was a teaching tool in practice today. OK you guys, see how that blind side the center on goal line plays work. They didn't get a TD, and they weren't on the 1 yard line anymore, it works 88% of the time. Yep they even have the percentages down how often it works. We should watch them and see if they do it again when they are in a game changing situation.

AGAIN!! if Watson had been under center then a bad snap would have been 1 or 2 yds; not 20+!!

I hate to say it but you wonder

where the staff's head was at. Not just this play, but the touchdown by Davidson that was never challenged. Didn't seem to be a whole lot of situational awareness.

If the center had been snapping high, where was Coach?***

High snaps = splitting reps at QB

Sep 23, 2014, 6:58 AM

Let DW take ALL SNAPS in practice so the centers can adjust to his height.

Smh at the rotating QB situation...
