In some ways, that could be a better spring board than Rocky Top if heupel gets the job.
Not as sexy tho.

Not that it matters, but would rather see TE go to UCF instead of Rocky Flop if he is going anywhere at all.

Seems like big schools aren't hiring coordinators very often

So UCF would likely get him in the door somewhere big in 3 years if he is successful

You beat me to it. I just heard that Huepel is going to TN. I'm surprised but not shocked.
I have no idea if Elliott is being considered by UCF or if he would be interested. It may be tough for him to go to a situation with a new AD. But, Danny White did an outstanding job building a G5 program.
UCF is a great stepping stone for a young coach. Nobody at UCF expects to hire a coach and have him retire there. It's a "Come in, do a great job, move to as better job" program.

I live in Tampa and often consider the complex ironies of life. The biggest rival UCF in Orlando has is USF in Tampa. If TE gets the HC job at UCF, he would be coaching against Jeff Scott at USF.---Our 2 OCs against each other.

Looking at a 4-5 yr window, UCF is the better job. At Tenn,

in about two years, both fans and admin. will forget the horrendous starting point. Coots have precisely the same problem. Negativity will create a self defeating culture very early with ANY new coach. A toxic environment could easily erase any hope for success in Knoxville and Columbia. The UT football program probably has the deeper hole given NCAA sanctions.

Why would he take that when he gets looks at P5 programs? This year proved what we already knew that Group of Five schools have zero shot at the playoff.

If UCF offers TE the job, I think he should take it. FL is a great area to recruit and the school and the football program have a bright future I think. Tennessee would have been a mistake. It's not only a dumpster fire, it's a Superfund site on fire. It's the Love Canal of coaching gigs at this point.
