Are we really witnessing the fall of Clemson athletics?

Apr 7, 2015, 11:12 PM

Besides football of course. Seems like everything but football, tennis, track and soccer is in the toilet. It's hard to watch, it really is.

I may be in the minority, but I'm fine with everything else sucking as long as we're good at football.

No.

Football team is in great position to win it all this year.

Yes, the baseball team has dropped to THUGA's level, but that will get fixed at the end of the season.

Spot the ball.

Meant to say "No" to the original question. I agree with your response.

I question if you're really a Clemson graduate...***

ohhhh, I misread you. You were saying soccer isn't in the toilet. Carry on. This isn't the fall of CU athletics though

I think if we could just make it to the final four in women's bball all hope would be restored***

than football being in the toilet.

Please don't fall victim to the coot propaganda machine that says things like wimmins basketball matter. They don't!

The only revenue generating sport at the college level that truly matters is football. You know it, I know it, and I believe that deep down in their chicken sized hearts, even the cooters know it.

Don't know if my sarcasm meter needs new batteries or not, but if Clemson is going to field a team in any sport, I want them to make a concerted effort to be the best....best coaches available, best players available, best facilities available (within reason, of course)

Of course I want all of our teams to be great. I suppose it gives us some level of pride to have an outstanding rowing, tennis, track, etc, team.

However, if we are honest, no one (outside some % of the Clemson fan base) cares about or remembers or is even aware of what level of success these teams acheive.

I would argue that success in other sports is not quite as bleak as the picture you paint (you'd be surprised how much sports fans at other schools ALSO pay attention to the "non-revenues"), but your point is well taken. Certainly at Clemson as at the vast majority of universities across our great land, football is the cash cow that pays the bills---we've always been fortunate in the ACC to garner as much income in basketball as the conference has historically done

In the toilet may be too harsh, but a general steady decline for sure. As I have said before the recent administrations have been more interested in buildings and going after awards and recognition. Their philosophy is that it is better to appear to look good and keep up with the Jones than to be good. I was not impressed with our previous AD and the jury is certainly out with our current AD. Jack should have been gone years ago and what we are doing with Littlejohn is a joke.

Apr 8, 2015, 8:41 AM

Of the five main sports I follow and care about at Clemson 3 are not in great shape. :(

Football - Great shape strong staff strong recruiting

Soccer - Noonan is returning us to our previous power levels

Baseball - Really bad shape

Basketball - Not optimistic but holding out hope that the new facility upgrade will bring better recruiting

Golf - Seems to have fallen off

I am starting to wonder also...I surely hope not but it

seems like a lot of the other sports have fallen by the wayside. Would love to hear from the administration on this...a "State of our Sports" report.
