Apologies if this is the wrong board

Aug 13, 2020, 9:46 AM

Couldn't decide if this was "football" or "politics", so splitting the difference and putting it in Amphitheater.

Heard one of the talking heads seriously proposing a government bailout for colleges and universities due to the (partial) loss of fall sports as a result of COVID. Just curious what people's thoughts are on this. Most universities seem to have their athletics programs set up as separate financial entities from the universities themselves. The athletic departments are basically set up as businesses unto themselves. As such, would they not have insurance (i.e. business interruption) to cover catastrophic losses like this? As much as I love college athletics, I just don't see large bailout as reasonable and necessary.

Thoughts?

COVID doesn't qualify as a business interruption

so the insurance companies won't cover the loss of business

Thanks for the info, but I am still against a bailout***

The schools should scrap some sports that don't make money moving forward.

It can never be paid off anyway. Besides, those pieces of debt paper about to become pretty worthless. Screw the kids and grand kids. Print it! Print a LOT of it!!!
