remember correctly the games didn't count in the standings or they being eligible for the conference championship first few years and that was with full membership. Same with Miami, BC and VT. Seems like it took a few seasons to get them fully involved. Why the special treatment for ND?

I think you're right but I cant recall the specifics. What got me was the $2 bill started then. GT refused to renew our series and play home and home in the late 70's because they felt we couldnt beat them in Atlanta. We did the $2 thing as the series ended to show them what they would miss economically.
