Antennas in Charleston Area

Mar 21, 2018, 3:29 PM

Does anybody have an HDTV antenna that you are happy with in the Charleston area? I have a small flat indoor antenna and it will not pick up CBS even though I have it pointed right at the tower which is only 12 miles away. I may have to move to an outdoor attic/roof mounted unit, but looking for any recommendations

This one worked for me. I don't live in Charleston but had trouble receiving off air stations.

I have this one in my attic but I also had my house wired for it...

It feeds down to all the rooms in the house.

Hulu with Live TV, YouTube TV and DirecTV NOW are all streaming services that offer one week free trials that you could use (as an alternative to the antenna). Each provides your local CBS affiliate within their packages.

That kinda defeats the purpose of an antenna.... Free.

True, but does he only watch the Tigers when they play on broadcast TV? Given that 99% of our games appear on some version of ESPN, I bet he has ESPN. With YouTube and Hulu, you no longer need the antenna bc they stream broadcast networks too. With Sling, you still need the antenna.

So, I think the info provided was quire relevant and helpful to the OP.

Thus the 7 day free trial.... feel like I’ve heard this before***

If you are slightly handy....make this. Better than 3 store bought antennas I bought. But it in the attic.

no such thing as an HDTV antenna

Get an antenna that picks up VHF and UHF signals

I got a highly rated flat antenna too.... it works but it's missing the 3 ETV channels. My old rabbit ears pick up ETV but some of the other channels... ridiculous. Rabbit ears got me more.

The antenna isn't HD the digital conversion is. If you have a newish TV you don't need the converter.

I have a Leaf antenna and get all the locals plus some. I live in summerville. You need a 60 mile range misdirection antenna.

Doubletiger, the rca one listed in this thread worked for me in the attic in Summerville. We also use a roof mounted one at work on the AF base, but CBS has gotten really weak over the last few months. It ruins my lunch price is right...As for games, I went back to cable, because....well 120 inch screen!
