Age Discrimination at It's Worst.

Jun 19, 2018, 3:03 PM

When I turned on my computer this AM my home page had, what I though would be, an interesting topic. "how many people born the same year as you, still survive"? Thinking I would be in a select group of survivors at my age, I was absolutely shocked when I saw the info was for only those born in 1933 and later. Heck. in 1933. I was 12 years old and already knew the difference between a boy and a girl. Even LightBulbBill, who has finally become eligible for Social Security, is included in the 85 and younger group. An insult like this demands I forward my protest to the NCAA, NAACP, NRA, AAA, WPA, ACLU, AMA, ADA, UPS, POTUS and any other organization with a bunch of capital letters.

Thinking I could find some solace if I looked for the number of surviving WW2 vets, not only was the results a sobering experience but according to their projections, I have less that a year to harass all of you. In June, 2014 there were about 1,000,000 WW2 survivors. About 555 die each day. That equates to 202,575 deaths per year. Even if I use 200,000 per, the projections look like this -----

June 2014 1,000,000

June 2015 800,000

June 2016 600,000

June 2017 400,000

June 2018 200,000

June 2019 0 "So long, it was nice to have known you".

I read the same article. I admit that my group still has a good percentage, but it is sad when the next year after your year jumps to over 90% and your group is in the 80s. Downward slide has begun.

Thanks for ruining my day. Hey man, just keep on drinking, which actually will flush fats out of your arteries. Seriously, in most of these studies they don't discriminate between groups in terms of lifestyle factors such as smoking, lack of exercise, and diet, which can be huge factors in an area like the Southeast. Smoking by far the most harmful.

Joe, you have a ways to go before you catch Dr. Ben Skardon. I think he is 101, and he still going Tiger Strong.

He was my English Lit. professor back in the late 1970's at Clemson.

Joe, always like to read your posts.

If I can live long enough to mend all of the fences I've battered during my past years and accomplish all the items on my bucket list, I'll need to hang around for many, many more years. Age isn't defined so much by years but by one's attitude.

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

And younger people who discriminate don't seem to.........

Jun 19, 2018, 8:25 PM

realize that they themselves will get old one day. And it will come sooner than they think!!

Joe21, I can remember reading about the last US WWI vet...

Jun 19, 2018, 9:13 PM

...passing away in I believe 2011 or so. He was 110? I have watched so many of the Greatest Generation passing year by year this decade and it is a very sad thing. It seems incredibly sad to me that within the next few years, we will have memorialized the last WWII vet alive in this country as well.

I would just like to say that we THANK YOU so much for your service to this country and we wish you many more birthdays. We are blessed here to have someone like you choosing to share your experiences with us. I and many others enjoy your stories.

Many many thanks to you and your brothers in arms, past and present. You all deserve our utmost respect.
