Addazio at BC is a poor man's Tommy Bowden. He has gone

Oct 22, 2019, 11:24 AM

7-6 practically every year he has been there. The only reason he was 7-5 last year is his bowl game against Boise State was cancelled. Every year, I think this is the year they get over the hump, and every year, it doesn't happen. They appear to be heading toward 7-6 again this year. The Jimmma Carter word "malaise" comes to mind when thinking about their program. Here's hoping it continues at least one more week. :)

I don't think they will even get to 7 this year

Maybe 6-6 and a win over a bad team in a bowl game, but i can just as easily see them losing 4 of their last 5 and missing a bowl. Their defense is really, really bad this year and that's really the only thing that has kept them afloat in the Addazio era - which is strange since Addazio has an offensive background yet routinely fields abysmal offenses at BC.

Only in America would 7-6 or 8-5 been deemed unsuccessful. Championship quality? No. Successful, yes. Especially considering the institutional expectations and difficulty of recruiting in their market.

I can't understand how that is a bad market. They're in a city with 3 million people. I don't think Boston University or Harvard are exactly recruiting nemeses. Surely, they can find half-a-dozen heavy boys for the offensive line and some decent skill-position players. I know Catholic kids typically want to run off to Notre Dame, but I would think BC would get a reasonable number of recruits who don't quite make the cut for Our Mother.

It's a bad market because Boston is a pro sports town

like NY or Pittsburgh. Apathy breeds mediocrity.

Only in America? International club soccer is even worse!

It's nothing for a manager to get fired (or "sacked") after 1 season over there. Expectations are all relative to the club and generally expected to be maintained indefinitely. It doesn't matter if the manager has won the league or whatever, if the performance drops for any period of the time the manager almost always takes the fall.

Well, some of his predecessors were more successful then Addazio.

You guys are giving T. Bowden too much credit. In Bowden’s tenure, he had significantly more Resources than BC. Yet, he rarely beat them.
