A thought or two - from news on Bernie Sanders

It's not really football related, but thought since it's a bye week - maybe I'd get a pass (no pun intended).
Bernie Sanders had a blocked artery & needed surgery. His campaign has been "suspended" - but one would think, it's probably over.
Got me thinking though - and as a mid-60s guy (Bernie's nearing his late 70s) I am proof that, unless you know somebody really important - someone my age is NOT GOING TO BE HIRED. No amount of experience, education, whatever - can get someone my age hired. Even people 10, 12 years younger can't get a job.
The ONLY job those like me can get is - governor, U.S. President, U.S. Representative, state legislator - or judge. The Bernie thing brought this to mind. It's totally true - I'd have a better chance being elected to political office than applying for and GETTING a job in the private sector.

You mean your dream job that follows after about 6 months of collecting shopping carts from the parking lot in temperatures in the high 90's at High Noon in the 1st week of October, in the Deep South, is that the dream job you're talking about?

About getting a job as Walmart greeter

Calhoun2 mentioned working as a Walmart greeter. You know, that would be okay with me. I think there is dignity in all honest work.
The problem is - to even get that Walmart greeter job, a computer program is going to scan your app before it gets before a pair of human eyes. The software does its scanning & let's say, usually tosses 90-95% of the applications. So, if 300 applications are being "scanned" - somewhere around 270-275 are discarded forever. That leaves maybe 15-30 that get passed to the "human eyes" (actually OUTSOURCED human eyes that look at hundreds of apps every day for dozens or hundreds of jobs). Average time anyone's app is viewed by the first human eyes? 4-6 seconds. If your app doesn't have a sentence, a phrase, a word - something that human scanner is looking for on THAT DAY for THAT JOB - it never gets to a second pair of eyes, maybe in an HR Dept where you're applying.
But if it DOES get that far (by now only 5 or 10 applicants remain from the original 300) - you MIGHT get called for an interview - BUT - only 3-to-5 of that remaining 5 or 10 get a sit-down with an actual human. At this point, only 1% of the original 300 applicants have any chance at all.
So if you get this far - you're extremely lucky but you haven't secured the job YET (as Walmart greeter). They're very particular about hiring their greeters but could care less if you're wandering the entire Walmart Super Center "theme park" (Walton World) trying to find an "associate" to help you locate an item.
No, the 1st level HR person will interview you with questions like, "If you found out the world was ending tomorrow, what would you do?" Maybe the highly trained screener (who passed H. School Psych with a C-minus) wants you to answer: "I'd immediately max out my 2 credit cards & buy everything cool in Walmart!" But no, she wanted you to say, "I'd continue greeting people until my shift ended." Or maybe, "If the sun's still out when I get home, I'm going bird watching." At any rate, you failed the interview. But even if you passed, that greeter's job isn't yours yet. You have to pass a drug test, a background check, and your credit report better not show 1 missed/late payment - even if your FICO score is 780-800.
Your chances for getting hired as a "greeter" began at 1-in-300 - but have increased to 1-in-5,000. Maybe 1-in-10,000. You should have run for Congress instead.

Before the Tulsi love affair begins on here.
Tulsi supports
1. Eliminating the Electoral college( which means another Republican will never be President)
2. Fee limits if any on Abortion 3. She supports closing down existing Nuclear Power plants
4. For cost of college. She believes college should be free for all
5. Reparations. She believes this should be "looked into"
6. Minimum wage of $15
7. Abolishing Capital Punishment
8. DACA. She believes in Citizenship for Dreamers ( again, preventing there ever being another Republican President)
So she is essentially your typical socialist liberal with a pretty face who believes in a one-party system. But by all means, go for it

In the last presidential election, I didn't like Trump and hated Clinton, so I just voted for our state and local candidates and skipped the president vote. I normally vote Republican, but could see myself voting for Tulsi, but doubt she has a shot at getting the Democrat nomination. She seems very level headed, served in the military and is pretty hot.

It's amazing how someone can run for president without having to meet at least the minimums of written job qualifications. It's so much more difficult to get a position at Clemson than to be President of the US.

there is only 1 every four years. There are thousands of Clemson jobs, most of which have fairly average requirements.

Actually, if you have the money, it's not. You'd be surprised how many applications there are for positions at Clemson and how complicated the process is to even be considered. Having worked there for years and served on many search committees, I can tell you that even an entry-level position is not easily obtained. Show me the job requirements that must be met for becoming president. I might be persuaded to change my mind.

I get job offers monthly. I travel all over the USA as a senior citizen with all expenses paid to go along with the top pay in my industry. I plan to work as long as I am healthy. Lots of jobs available if you are willing to do common things in an uncommon way. My wife travels full time with me and has decided to join the work force on our next project. She's a '78 Clemson Grad.
