113th,86th,111th, and 93rd ranked defenses in the country. Maybe, just maybe, our defense will provide a bigger test.

Nice! I have complete faith in BV and all our coaches.

Tigers win this Saturday!

Go Tigers!!!

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Question though, is that before or after they played Lville?

Sep 26, 2016, 11:09 PM

Thats my only concern from that stat

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You have a point. I do know that GT was averaging a lot

more yards rushing, yards passing, and point scoring before they played Clemson than after they played Clemson.

Fl State is arguably the one people would have had ranked as the Beyer, and they were 53rd before they played....just to get an idea.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Akron scored 65 on Marshall.

Sep 27, 2016, 12:47 AM [ in reply to Question though, is that before or after they played Lville? ]

Others have given up a ton of points as well. Tigers have to play well, but Louisville hasn't played a defense on par with Clemson's. The defensive ends at FSU are good, but a tad sluggish. Especially Sweat who was nursing an injury as I recall.

They've played 3 of the better offenses

Sep 26, 2016, 11:55 PM

They didn't really give up a ton of yards to Ole Miss, though.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

To make it a fair evaluation...

Sep 26, 2016, 11:25 PM

since their opponents lost a lot of yards to Louisville, that doesn't fare well with the stats.

Their opponents' defenses are ranked 111th, 83rd, and 113th in that order. (I don't count Charlotte as it's not in the same division.)

Now, let's remove what Louisville did on offense against them and reinsert the numbers back into the ranking. (Louisville put 845 yards, 530 yards and 690 yards against Syracuse, Florida State and Marshall.)

We'll get 35th, 38th and 54th.

If you look at it this way, I don't think the defenses they played are that bad.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why not include Charlotte. Lville used them to run up the

Sep 26, 2016, 11:30 PM

stats. Charlotte is a D-1 school now, though they are ranked #128 out of 128.

Sep 26, 2016, 11:45 PM

I somehow thought they're still not in FBS.

Charlotte's total defense is at #116. Doing the same thing like I did earlier will move it to a tie at #91.

Or go to teamrankings.com and see where they sat on the date before they played them.

Even after 4 games...

Sep 26, 2016, 11:47 PM

it's still too less information. If you check the ranking before the games, that would be far too less information.

Re: Even after 4 games...

Sep 26, 2016, 11:52 PM

It's be the games prior, without Loyicille...which would be FL State @ #59, Charlotte no rank, Syracuse no rank but #128 afterwards, and Marshall @ # 117.

Sep 27, 2016, 12:07 AM [ in reply to Re: Even after 4 games... ]

Marshall gave up 550 yards to Akron. They are a powerhouse and 233 to Morgan st.
Fl state gave up 400 yards to old miss 300 to Charleston southern with half the team at home. And 650 to UFS.
Syracuse gave up 469 to uconn 454 to UCF and 100 to Colgate. That's what the teams they have played have done if you take out Louisville.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Even after 4 games...

Sep 27, 2016, 9:48 AM

Issue with that though is if you want to try to make a comparison that way, you have to take a game out of all 128 teams (and to be fair, you have to take out every team's worst game). You can't compare current averages of those teams minus Louisville to the current stats, yet other teams have an extra game that could make them look better, or worse.

Best direction to get to the point being made is just simply seeing what their defenses were ranked prior to their game vs Louisville. Doesn't give any info for Charlotte or Syracuse prior to the Louisville game, but let's be honest, you don't really think either of those are in the top 50, do you? Syracuse with all games is #123 now, were #128 after Louisville, so they've only moved 5 since...if you count your direction of all minus Louisville, and their 2 games that is being counted puts them @ #79 (note, they don't count in Colgate).

keep in mind, you are only looking at what Louisville did to what they were prior, not counting what they did afterwards. After might have a minor bounce back, but Louisville took Fl State from #59 to #91.

No you wouldn't need to take out a game from everyone. You rank on averages. It doesn't matter how many games. For ranking opponents of a team, you only average the other games that the opponent played. So remove UoL from Char, Syr, Marshall and FSU.

Why would you think you would need to remove a game that Usuk played for instance?
