2020 Non-Conference Schedule for ACC teams.....

While we're waiting around for the full schedule....we at least know about these....
Atlantic:
Boston College- Holy Cross, Ohio, at Kansas, Purdue
Clemson- Akron, at Notre Dame, Citadel, South Carolina
FSU- vs. West Virginia (Atl.), Samford, at Boise State, Florida
Louisville- Murray State, Western Kentucky, at Notre Dame, Kentucky
N.C. State- Mississippi State, at Troy, Delaware, Liberty
Syracuse- at Rutgers, Colgate, at Western Michigan, Liberty
Wake- at Old Dominion, App. State, Villanova, vs. Notre Dame (Charlotte)
Coastal:
Duke- Middle Tennessee, Elon, Charlotte, at Notre Dame
Ga. Tech- Gardner-Webb, UCF, Notre Dame, at Georgia
Miami- Temple, Wagner, UAB, at Michigan State
UNC- at UCF, vs Auburn (Atl), James Madison, UConn
Pitt- Miami (Ohio), at Marshall, Richmond, Notre Dame
UVA- vs Georgia (Atl), VMI, UConn, at Old Dominion
Va. Tech- Liberty, Penn State, at Middle Tennessee, North Alabama
A Couple of Observations:
Liberty checking in with 3 ACC games...almost as many as Notre Dame
Opportunities to improve ACC reputation (we do our part, others need to step up):
- UVA vs UGA - Mississippi State at N.C State (the Pack hosts the first big game for Coach Leach) - Penn State at Va. Tech - West Virginia vs FSU - FSU at Boise State (FSU going to the smurf turf!) - UNC vs Auburn - UNC at UCF - Miami at Michigan State - Boston College at Kansas, and against Purdue....these are the games that Addazio struggled with. - The usual season closer games (Louisville/Kentucky, FSU/UF, GT/UGA) - Any game against Notre Dame
Worst non-conference schedule goes to Syracuse. Yowza, that's pretty bad. Virginia Tech's isn't very good either. Miami's is pretty sad. Looks like they took the Bama approach to non-conference scheduling. I'd rather play the 9 game conference schedule at this point. Then play one good non-conference game, one decent non-conference game, and then one cupcake.

Crazy most of the coastal teams don't play two P-5 teams out of conference. No wonder the Coastal is so weak.
Also same with NC State and Syracuse from the Atlantic. Can see why they have never made the ACCCG.

Only the 4 schools that play instate sec rivals are playing 10 P5 games. The rest need to improve their schedules. I realize that most sec schools only play 9 P5 games too.
This is why there are some bad weekends for game watching.

Should Clemson make a MAJOR move to improve it's non-conference schedule ?
Would that increase our competitiveness in the CFP ?
How far out (in time) is our Non-conference schedule set ?
If we did strengthen our schedule, could we afford to lose a game and still make the CFP ?

2021 is a problem for us....

SCAR is the only power 5 school. In the years following, we have SCAR plus one other big game (UGA, Notre Dame, LSU, etc.) As long as we have 12 games...that set up is probably fine. But the Wyoming/UConn/SC State trio is not a good look. I think some of our conference brethren will be better by then...but we’ll have to see what happens.

Any thoughts to dropping SCar for Georgia to help our SOS? Maybe after the 10-bomb drops?

The only hope I see for raising respect is Norvell and FSU winning two of those (WVU, Boise and UF) with 3 wins meaning they are back and UNC knocking off Auburn. Obviously we need to take care of Notre Dame. If Satterfield can get Louisville up and running that would help but now that’s two losses for ND to the ACC so those wins are no longer respectable. Otherwise I see no hope for raising the conference profile next year. A Ga Tech upset of UGA would be nice but that guy has a lot of work to do and it will take longer than two years.
