7 year old left the electric heater on.

Jan 24, 2020, 4:11 PM

She must have been trying to warm up this morn before school. Left it on high. Came home and chillin, then my power goes out in half the upstairs. Start checking rooms when breaker not working to reset and her room filled w smoke, night light and heater plug totally melted.

At this point I figure I need to call my home insurance to file a claim, it may be much less than my deductible but who knows the damage, my house is older than me.

Yea, both plugged in were completely melted.

Black smoke mark on the wall. Pulled them out and many sparks. Turned off those rooms in breaker now just to be sure. Guess I’ll run an extension cord to the master tonight for TV and light. Luckily kids are gone this weekend. I filed a claim and adjuster coming out then electrician.

When I moved out of Johnstone (freshman year)

Jan 24, 2020, 4:57 PM

We had a power strip in a plug behind one of the old wooden desks. We used it for everything TV, fridge, and the ceramic space heater since the heat sucked and we had drafts. Anyway, moving out and one of the last things I did was try and unplug the power strip. I say TRIED because it wouldn't come out. The plastic on the strip plug had melted onto the wall and into the socket.

I left it.

Side note - Was never scared I could have burned Johnstone down. lol

I suppose you'll check up behind her from now on. My coot in law left the tv on last night. She couldn't figure out the remote control. I showed her. Hope she'll remember.
