You know, this is the first time I've heard this take, but I agree 100%

My surprise was ..... Georgia ranked no. 6 with a loss to “them”...... UNC beats THEM and we beat UNC by one point and get penalized for a close win. Go figure

Look at it from the committee's perspective. If they put Penn State on the outside, we would never hear the end of how Penn State got robbed. They put them at fourth. Now, Ohio State beats them. Maybe even beats them in a relatively close game. Congrats. They had their shot. They lost. Now they can shut up about it.

I agree. The Georgia ranking is the biggest head scratcher.

They lose at home to the team that lost to UNC. Yeah, the team that we played close, but won.

They struggle, again at home, to beat Notre Dame, who got pounded by a bad Michigan team.

Then, on a neutral field, need officiating help to sneak past Florida.

Other than LSU, we really don't know how good, or bad, the SEC really is.

how's it surprising?....

Nov 6, 2019, 8:10 AM [ in reply to Re: The most surprising thing to me about the cfp ranking was ]

I hate defending UGA, but they've also beaten ND & UF (two top 15 teams in the committees eyes)

No different than us dropping ONLY TWO SPOTS when we lost to Pitt, we had beaten FSU & Louisville (who at the time were respectable)

you can afford a "bad loss" or even a "close win vs bad team" as long as you have 2+ GOOD ranked wins.

Example: if Texas A&M and FSU were ranked in the top 15 this year we would NOT be at #5 right now.............we have no meat on the bone.

The week we lost to PITT...every body else lost that weekend

Nov 6, 2019, 8:11 AM

too.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yes, that played a factor as well.........

Nov 6, 2019, 8:25 AM

but we also had beaten #5 louisville & #17 FSU at the time we lost to Pitt.........the meat on the bone helped us.

Neither does Bama***

agree completely....i'm more annoyed that Bama is above PSU

Nov 6, 2019, 8:22 AM

than I am us @ #5. Per the norm Bama gets preferential treatment.
