On Chad to SMU

Nov 30, 2014, 10:41 AM

I live down here in Texas and was talking to my brother-in-law last night about Morris to SMU. My brother-in-law is a coach at a perennial high school power house in the San Antonio area. His exact words on the subject were, "why would he do that? He'll never win there. Why not stay put and wait for a better opportunity to come along." Ever since SMU got the death penalty they've never amounted to much. What say you?

Two million + reasons.

SMU has money.

And I have a feeling they may end up in a P5 conference at some point, getting back to the days when they were as big a name as any in CFB when the SWC existed.

He could be a big part of that plan.

good point

But Wake has money too and look at where they are.

100% agreement. Bad career move for any coach.***

Good coaches make things happen at the worst places

Spurrier at USC, Duke. Cutcliff at Duke, Grobe at Wake. 3 million puts him in top 20salary. Smu or not, that is a lot of money

yes, but...

Of all the programs that you just mentioned, each one having had some success, which one has won a conference title or had a significant bowl victory? None. Granted $2MM bones is a compelling argument in and of it's self. However, if money is the only reason you take a job then you'll pay for it the whole time you're in that job.
