Clemson vs SC commits in Shrine Bowl selection

Oct 22, 2018, 1:35 PM

Saw that we had one state of SC football player commit in the Shrine Bowl, whereas USC had five or six. I know the Gamecocks have picked up supposedly the #1,#2, and #3 players in the state in this class, but I'm not worried.

My question:
Is this situation a result of our nation-wide recruiting success picking better talent across the country or is it a function of the "Josh Belk Syndrome," as some in-state recruits don't want to compete with the better-caliber players on the Clemson team?

It used to be that the Shrine Bowl rosters were a precursor to the college teams' success in the state. I'm wondering if that has changed.

Good basis for a TigerNet article perhaps, David Hood.

(If my information is incorrect or incomplete, please correct it.)

Thanks!

Similar to the last several years this is a really weak year for recruiting in the state of South Carolina.

Even last year had a few truly outstanding players before a big drop in talent.

I have heard several times that this is the least talent in the state since anyone can remember. There are very few headliners and there aren't very many moderate talents after that to fill out rosters.

As the games are a month apart. But I agree with the overall message of your point.

A very down year for talent in SC (and a much better than average year for NC) and us recruiting nationally much more so than in previous years, is going to skew the numbers.

Several factors

talent down this year

we have unofficials from recruits as far away as CA

we recruit both talented players and solid men

we don't over recruit and run players off in a year or two

we won't get them all, but I would never worry about uscjr recruiting classes

According to Merrell(?), Holley won't ever

make it in.

Sort of explains why a 4 star from Northwestern doesn't get A Clemson push. We have their former HC on staff.

That one deCootment. More to come.

we are only signing 1 guy from SC

Oct 23, 2018, 9:13 AM

and he made the team. I think we only offered 1 other guy and not at the position he signed for and he was coot all the way
