Clemson leads undefeated teams in wins over Massey Index Top

Oct 28, 2018, 5:21 PM

Interesting as you hear these "talking heads" and "twitter warriors" talk strength of schedule, etc.

As of today, Clemson has played 3 teams in the Top 35 of the Massey Index. (A&M, NC State, and Syracuse).

Bama has played 2 in the Top 35 (A&M and Mississippi State).

Notre Dame has played 1 in the Top 35 (Michigan).

If you took a snapshot of this Massey Index, projected out, here are the following # of teams each school will play in the Top 35 in the regular season

Clemson (5)-A&M, NC State, Syracuse, South Carolina, Boston College
Bama (4)-A&M, Mississippi State, LSU, Auburn
Notre Dame (2)-Michigan, Syracuse

Obviously, the Massey Index and the strength of schedule is a moving item each week. You can make the argument that Clemson's schedule to this point has not been a blood bath.

But I just don't see how any intelligent person could say that it is any less difficult than Bama or Notre Dame.

Projecting it out

Interesting, but I don't see South Carolina remaining in the top 35 so we would be tied with Bama at 4. I know you just projected if all teams maintained their current status, but I don't see how they are in the top 35 now. All of the other teams will likely stay in the top 35 in my opinion.

Not a math statter . . . but seeing Sackerlina inside of a 35 ranking on anything regarding football makes me wonder , are these rankings in reverse order or has the college football world gone absolutely crazy ?

Some come move out, some could move in

Very fluid.

For instance, it is possible that Duke will move into Top 35 (they are 44th now). If we play UVA in championship, they could remain in Top 35 if they beat VT.

So, you have a good point...which is why it is fluid.

But they rank this Tuesday. And these are the facts as of this Tuesday.
