Final thoughts: Syracuse
Final thoughts and notes after Clemson's 49-14 victory over Syracuse in the Carrier Dome this past weekend, including the trash talking, some odd stats and an improving defense. Photo by Rich Barnes / US PRESSWIRE Full Story » |

I'm pretty sure 9 carries for 36 yards= 4 yards per carry...

I'm more concerned about giving up 323 yards on the ground to the Syracuse defense.

I am not concerned about yards... I am only concerned about points. The orange ran the same nbr of plays that we did... and had a lot less points.... and less yards.... had 2 more rushing plays than we did and about 200 more yards.... however they sold out to stop the run and pressure Tahj and were burned repeatedly on long scoring passes. They only had 74 yds passing...

Dipchits M.O. is to be an irritant. He knows how to with his yankass voice with a brash, abrasive delivery.
Stop responding. Stop listening. Don't buy from his sponsors. He'll be out quicker than you can spell Arbitron.

Not sure if everyone is upset that we gave up so many

yards on the ground or that we let a few chucks of field get by yet again. In games like Syracuse it's not as big a deal. But against FSU or even SCar it is a bigger concern. Those teams have runners/receivers that can take it all the way home more easily. I have no doubt Venables knows the problem well and will make better calls and substitutions when we are in those games.

Silly human... 14 points does not win many games! This is not fantasy football where you get points for yds!

Rushing yards

Syracuse had almost 150 of their rushing yards on only 4 carries. I am more worried about big plays in the run game than the overall run defense.

4 big plays ...how many 3 and outs? When you shoot for 3 and outs ... you will give up big plays... that is what happened to Syracuse as well, they did a better job than anyone this season getting our O to go 2 and out. I think Syracuse had 8 drives of 4 plays or less that did not score or get a first down! That is good D... most Os do not get a lot more than 8 possessions a game. But Syracuse had a lot of possessions because we were scoring fast and because they forced a lot of 3 an outs on our O!

If the 'Cues spent as much time working on defense as they did on their lame smack talk and post 8 yard run tackle celebrations, they might be a pretty good team. Glad Dabo and the Tigers have more class. Makes me proud to be a Clemson guy to see how upstanding our program is in a world that has gotten increasingly less classy.
