One reason it's a silly assertion that he was asking sarcastic questions of the reporters is that he was mainly talking directly to the doctors on his task force, not the reporters. He was asking Dr. Birx, not the reporters, about disinfectants and light, etc.

There's some evidence of a scientific basis for UV and research into a medicinal means to kill the virus. In the 1950s blood was transferred from the body through a machine where it was 'purged,' with UV light then returned to the body. This wasn't something Trump dreamed up.
I am not excusing his ignorance, his lie about what he said or why he said it, neither am I excusing his horribly poor judgement for not explaining fully about the two concepts. He lied, there's no excuse, imo.

image than the good of the people. just own up to it...he was asking questions about something he'd been briefed on prior to going to the podium. His understanding seemed to be rudimentary, at best.
If he were honest, he'd have said, "I was not as well prepared for the briefing and didn't clearly articulate my questions to the doctors" or something.
Instead, he waffles, and continues to dig himself in a hole. We don't have time for this right now. I need someone that can LEAD the people, not try to cover their a** every step of the way.

He would do much much better in the polls and for the country if he would come out, say a calming we're all in this together and we hurt for those who have lost their lives speech, then leave.
Let the doctor's and experts hold the rest of the press conference and answer questions.
But he can't do that.
He HAS TO pick fights with the media, pat himself on the back, and ramble. Why because it's what his base wants and needs to fight reality.

He was sincere in the briefing about UV treatments and most likely sincere about medicine to kill the virus. I'm satisfied that there is a foundation on which his speculation was built. His lie came after the fact. That's all you get from me. I'm not going to lie to try and dismiss Trump's lie.

source of UV and 'bleach,' treatments and given an honest report. He may have been repeating something from the pulmotect superoxide research which has been ongoing for decades now.
Superoxides are produced by the body to fight pneumonia which is the real killer when Covid enters the lungs. Superoxides and peroxides are produced by the human immune system and the medicine which goes into trials in the next month is believed to 'alert,' the human immune system to produce superoxides.
Trump screwed the pooch by not understanding the medicine and process well enough to discuss it so laymen can understand.
