VT, that doesn't necessarily put us above them in the rankings. They would have to fall to at least 16 in order to assure us being the 2nd ACC team in the BCS

It seems pretty common knowledge that BC would not have to simply lose, but lose badly for us to get the nod over them. On the other hand they're 11th in the BCS, and the way the polls have been sternly punishing losers of any sort this year I don't think it's too much of a stretch to see see them slipping to 17th.

and dropped back to 7th. (5 spots) if BC loses to VT i would think they would drop the same if not further the way theyve been dropping teams after theyve lost this whole year.

couldn't hurt to have LSU over Tenn.
ASU and Tenn. don't HAVE to lose, it would just help our chances.
BC and Hawaii have to go down for us to get the opportunity.

I'm kinda tired of saying this...it matters in that if UT and OK lose, they drop in the rankings not to mention BCS computer polls, therefore their BCS rankings go down, and ours move up. If ours move up, it increases our chances. Though not completely necessary, they ABSOULUTELY MATTER!!!!

Yes, I will do it for the good of Clemson.

But we can't wait until Sunday morning to start.
We need to make sure the Sugar Bowl knows that Clemson would be a better fit than the ACC-CG loser or Illinois.

Here's what I posted yesterday (long)...
Nov 27, 2007, 5:09 PM
|
|
Well I figured it would take a nerd to figure out what all these BCS nerds have conceived in this system, so after spending class writing all the possibilities up on the board here is the scenario where Clemson can make a BCS bowl !!! (stay with me and it will make sense)
Current BCS Standings: 1. Missouri 2. WVU 3. Ohio State 4. Georgia 5. Kansas 6. Va. Tech 7. LSU 8. USC 9. Oklahoma 10. Florida 11. BC 12. Hawaii 13. Arizona State 14. Tennessee 15. Illinois 16. Clemson 17. Oregon
if...
Arizona beats Arizona State Washington beats Hawaii VT beats BC USC beats UCLA and maybe Oregon State beats Oregon
WE ARE IN THE BCS (and this is how...)
There are 6 BCS Conference Bids, and they will go to: BIG 10: Ohio State BIG EAST: WVU ACC: Virginia Tech PAC 10: USC BIG 12: Missouri (assuming Mizzou beats Oklahoma, but even if Oklahoma defeats Missouri then both Oklahoma and Missouri will receive BCS bids (if Missouri stays ahead of Kansas, Kansas will then be hung out to dry since only TWO teams from any conference can be in) SEC: LSU (if LSU beats Tennessee, either way it doesn't matter since only TWO teams can be in, so Georgia + SEC winner will be in and the other will be hung out to dry)
So, let's revisit the BCS Standings... 1. Missouri (in Title game or BCS game w/ loss) 2. WVU (either way title game w/ win or BCS w/ loss) 3. Ohio State (title game or BCS) 4. Georgia (at-large bid) 5. Kansas (either way only 2 Big 12 teams in, so either Kansas or Oklahoma are out) 6. Virginia Tech (BCS as ACC champ) 7. LSU (BCS as SEC champion or OUT with a loss) 8. USC (in with PAC 10 title, this is the one team we need to win their respective conference) 9. Oklahoma (out with loss to Mizzou or in with win, either way only 2 Big 12 teams will make it) 10. Florida (OUT) 11. BC (OUT w/ loss, will they drop below Clemson???) 12. Hawaii (OUT w/ loss to Wash.) 13. ASU (OUT w/ loss to Ariz) 14. Tennessee (OUT w/ loss or knocks out LSU w/ win) 15. Illinois 16. Clemson
Since one of the conference champions with only one team in the BCS (Ohio State or WVU) will be in the title game, this leaves THREE at-large spots for the BCS...
AT-LARGE 1: Georgia AT-LARGE 2 & 3: The top choice teams would be Illinois and Clemson (this is why we need OSU to beat Oregon, just in case they would jump over us)
The BCS Rules State, for an at-large team... 1. Won at least 9 games and be in Top 14 of BCS 2. No more than 2 teams per conference in the BCS
Clemson and Illinois would both meet these criteria and have a legit shot and being selected for the remaining two at-large bids.
Any questions, comments, slanderous outbursts???

quit dreaming of a "miracle" way to get in. Honestly, I would be a little embarrassed about getting in to a BCS bowl by all this technical mumbo jumbo. Why couldn't we just WIN our way in?? I'm not saying I wouldn't be thrilled to be there... i'm just saying... it looks weird. Let's just be happy to go to Gator or Peach, win that game, and win the ACC next year. Plain and simple. GO TIGERS!

My sentiments exactly! You all are starting to sound like those Gamecock fans trying to wish and talk your way into something. I'd like to see my Tigers(players and coaches)not choke and actually earn their way to respect.
P.S. Lets face it outside of SC the Clemson/USC does not mean that much so I'm still a little sour that we let an oportunity to gain some national respect slip away.

I just read on ESPN that Cullen was voted 2nd Team All ACC. The article said in the next sentences he lead the ACC in pass efficiency. Here is the quotes. "Harper finished 28-of-38 for 229 yards and his 27th touchdown pass against South Carolina. Earlier this season, he broke the school's season mark of 21 touchdown passes shared by Woody Dantzler and Charlie Whitehurst.""Harper was chosen second-team all-ACC by the league's media. He led the conference in pass efficiency, completing 67 percent of his throws for 2,887 yards with only six interceptions." You really want to get pissed off look at this link.

Stats aren't everything. Ryan will be 1st round draft pick.
Dec 2, 2007, 11:43 AM
|
|
I doubt that Harper would get drafted by the NFL's third round if he signed up. There is a certain presence, poise and vision about Matt Ryan that is hard to quantify, but you know it's NFL caliber when you see it.
Harper has done a really good job this year-- better than anyone expected. If Harper does as well next year, and fixes a few things, I think he could be a first round NFL pick too. But you can't judge QBs solely by their stats. And you should de-rate Harper's stats a bit anyway because BC played played a tougher schedule than Clemson (Sagarin ranking of #31 vs. Clemson's #43).
Although Harper "completes" a lot of passes, under Rob Spence's system, many of those "completions" seem to be easy screens into the backfield where all the yardage gained is actually accomplished with the receiver's rushing skills. BC hits screens too but they also seem to throw further downfield more often.
Also, Harper seems to check-down to a short easy completion (rather than the longer 1st down completion) much more quickly than Matt Ryan. That may account for Harper's higher completion rate, and lower number of interceptions.
Harper also seems to get the ball out to the receiver in the backfield a bit late, and without much vision about the defender bearing down on the back. This has led to some crushing hits for a loss on defenseless receivers (like the hit that bruised Jacoby Ford's sternum). (Fortunately I can't recall any of those crushing hits resulting in a fumble but that's a concern.) I've watched several BC games this year, and I can't recall Ryan ever doing that.
And although neither Harper nor Ryan are very mobile, Ryan seems to have a better awareness of the pass-rush and a better ability to hang in the pocket until the last second, or step out of the pocket, or scramble out of the pocket at just the right moment.
Harper has done really well, and I hope Harper sticks around and plays his senior year, but if I owned an NFL team I'd pick Matt Ryan over Cullen Harper THIS year. Maybe next year I'd pick Harper over Ryan if Harper improves (as I think we all expect from such a hard worker). Besides, there's always a tendency to give these types of awards to seniors. Second team ACC is not bad for a first-year starter! Hopefully Harper will be first team ACC next year with a Heisman and an ACC title on his resume too.
