Staph Infection Story Time

Aug 13, 2019, 10:44 AM

about two weeks ago, I was a bachelor for two days, which means I went insane with my friends. We basically were at the pool or in the lake from sun up to sun down. I even went skiing in the dark with just a life jacket on. Really smart things to be doing at 39 years old.

I had cut my chest on the pontoon while trying to get back into the boat. I was attempting to not use the ladder to save time and that wasnt the best idea. The cut was small and it stopped bleeding fairly quickly. I might have poured beer on it, but that doesnt really matter.

3-4 days later and back to real life, I have a HUGE knot/cyst on my chest. Super painful, super painful. So I go to dermatologist, they crack it open and draw out the nasty and send it for testing.

Next day, I have severe body cramps, stomach pains, neck tensing up, etc.. So everyone starts freaking and all the docs think I have MRSA. They hook me to IV's, get me all set up and start doing scans and listening to my heart as I guess MRSA and Staph can attack the outer lining of the heart.

Tests come back and its Staph. Thank goodness, I was scared. They have me on some super strong anti-biotics now and this gross topical cream that I use 3x a day. They are certain staph came from the lake and they all just looked at me like I was an idiot, especially my wife.

So yeah, good story. There is a part two that I will tell when I am ready as its more scary and I am not ready to share. But thanks for all the T's and P's. I have never been in a hospital all hooked up with people freaking and never want to do it again.

TL<img border=">R I got drunk and cut myself getting in a boat. Almost died from MRSA, but wasnt MRSA, just Staph infection. I am ok now.

TYFL

Be more careful what you stick your staff in and it won’t get infected.

I'm not sure if it is social media and the fact that we have

Aug 13, 2019, 10:48 AM

news at our fingertips literally at all times, but are these infections, brain eating amoebas, flesh eating bacteria stories becoming more and more common, or just covered more by media outlets?

And then the dogs dying from blue-green algae, etc.

I know me and my kids aren't going in any warm, standing water anytime soon.

This is Wolverine Lake at its fed by a river. Pretty chilly lake and the water rises and falls like a normal lake. Its not what some MI people call a lake and its standing water with bubblers. Like you, eff that mess.

I think maybe10 peolpe a year get the brain eating amoeba

thing. There's a news article for every one of them.

Still, your odds of dying in a car wreck are infinitely higher. My mother read an article about some person who swam in the ocean with a cut and died from some bacteria. I explained to her, as I always do, that the odds of us all dying in a car wreck going to the beach are far greater.

Vibrio vulnificus ain't nothing to mess with

take a walk in the water, lose a leg, or worse..the next day.

Ever notice no good stuff happens immediately like that? Its always bad stuff.

I spend about 8-12 hours floating in a warm fresh water

lake every week, and I'm OK. It's about 88 degrees right now. I wouldn't worry about it.

I've had MRSA. I know the pain of child birth.

Aug 13, 2019, 10:50 AM

Had this great idea to shave my pubes once. Well, next day I got a little cyst in the fupa area. No big deal. By day 2 it was a huge cyst. End of day 2 I go to the doc. Says it's likely MRSA. Day 3 and it's about the size of a lime. Doc gave me Doxycycline and some other exotic antibiotics to take. Also gave me pain pills. That's when I learned take every six hours means take every 5 hours because it would hit me instantly.

Ended up squeezing the sucker out in the shower. Left a huge hole the size of a pencil eraser that eventually filled in.

NEVER AGAIN WILL I SHAVE MY PUBES. EVER.
