As I recall, they had some kind of problem, either the band

or their equipment was late. Like, and hour and a half late. The crowd was getting restless. Pot smoke hanging heavy in the air in Littlejohn, beach balls and frisbees were flying around. Ian Anderson apologized and said they'd make up for it... and they did, playing for 3 hours.

I'm remembering things correctly. This was almost 50 years ago, and lord knows what state of mind I was in.
When I'm around some of my old buddies from back in the day, it takes all of us to put together the whole story. I remember one thing, somebody remembers another, etc. Combined we can piece it all together...

A couple things about Tull. First, you never missed a show

if you could help it. I saw them 3 or 4 times back in the day. Yes, their albums were wonderfully produced and sounded great. But their live concerts were legendary. They truly "put on a show" and were very entertaining. And Ian Anderson was known to be a taskmaster who demanded perfection... the band was always tight and nailed it, never any sloppy performances. And every tour was different, you didn't know what to expect. They didn't just stand up there and go thru the same old tired setlist.
Second, Ian was simply incredible live. Singer and musician, band leader, minstrel, and actor on the stage. At times it felt like you were at a theatre watching a play. His antics and humor were great. And he was athletic. I saw him climb up on top of stacked amps, throw his flute about 20 feet up in the air, jump back down to the stage and catch it on his knees... like a majorette does with a baton. He was amazing.
