Looking back was the Louisiana purchase a mistake ?

Jan 7, 2020, 2:16 AM

Should have left modern day Louisiana to the French and kept the other lands. A benefit for everyone

Stupid answer...

25% of all US trade flows thru NOLA so just maybe it is important.

As someone that works for the railroad and the US ports

I can say without a doubt that your numbers are nowhere close to being accurate. Mobile and Gulfport dwarf Port NOLA at this point.

am very aware of the US Govt subsidizing rail/sea connections to get flow across USA.

My 25% number was just before Katrina, maybe off now, but for centuries NOLA was critical to the DEVELOPMENT of USA.

First, that's absolutely ridiculous.

Second, it sounds like you're saying the NOLA is the sphincter of America, which is much more believable.

These numbers may be psybj BS but 50 % of all the good food and music in the USA comes through New Orleans.

as someone whose wife and uncle...

Jan 7, 2020, 10:38 AM

wife was Deputy Director of Port of N.O. @ 5'3" she would climb a Jacob's Ladder in skirt & heels to discuss issues w/ a Capt.

uncle was Pres of Port of G'Port, proud that he stole the banana trade from NOLA.

but my numbers ccome from Nat. Geographic.

How does the grain and all other products that flow down the MS River get to g'port?

LOOP!

Only for the French. It was a win-win for us. Manifest destiny for us and Napoleon found a way to get dead.
