serious question: Why don't our DBs look for the ball?

Jan 1, 2017, 7:55 PM

I can't count the number of PI calls against our secondary this year. So many of those calls would not be called PI if our DB had made the slightest attempt to look for the ball. It didn't cost us last night, and will hopefully not cost us against Bama (I'm counting on our D Line smothering Hurt and I'm not counting on Bama not suddenly becoming a passing team). It may have cost us the PIT game. And unless we fix this, it could cost us in the future.

Are we not teaching our DBs how to defend the pass? Dumb question, but seems like an issue.

GO TIGERS!!!!

I think part of it is strategy...

How many busts though this year?

Outside of some sketchy officiating I like what this defense has done this year.

Another serious question .... why doesn't CLEMSON lose more games?

Coaching maybe?

In the back to back pi the dB did look back. It was a questionable call but idk if the ref saw our dB look.

Maybe they can take lessons from Wilkins.....he is really good at finding balls

Honestly I've thought the same. Our guys seem to panic at times and just grab receivers before an impending catch...never looking back for the ball. I guess it IS better than looking back, getting lost, and allowing the big play. There's always room for improvement. Those that think we're perfect at every phase of the game may be in for another eye opener with OJ Howard. Not saying we'll lose, but don't get cocky.

Those two PI calls were unfortunate.

Jan 1, 2017, 8:45 PM

Both passes were under-thown. That's why the receivers slowed down to wait for the ball and so our backs collided with them too early.

Now, you'd think that, if our DBs looked back, they could have a chance to intercept it, right?

True, but that's a risk. It depends on how aggressive you want your players to play. If they looked back, which normally slow down their speed, it could create a separation and, if the ball wasn't under-thrown, they'd be in the endzone.

That's why I said it's unfortunate. Nothing our DBs did was wrong. They did a good job on coverage.

Seems like a common thing across teams

agree with the other poster. When you look back you do not know where the receiver is, and it does interrupt your pace which might cause separation.

Because Wilkins is doing it for them?

I for one am glad you are stopping. You are one of the most ignorant posters ever. You obviously think very highly of your own opinion, unlike the rest of us - RockHillTiger

That concerns me.***
