The sad part of the situation

Aug 13, 2013, 10:51 AM

Is the Rugby field will be completely destroyed, and then they will attempt to play rugby games on the field afterwards in a mix of mud, sludge, chicken bones, and broken beer bottles.

I'd expect that the student athletes will need to plan a couple of hours into their day Sunday to try and make the field conditions playable. What makes it harder is that the main rugby season for college this year has flipped from the spring to the fall.

www.clemsonrugby.com and clemsonrugbyfoundation.org to find out more about a team expected to finish in the top 10 in the country this year.

I've thought this for years: why don't we put down artificial turf on the intramural fields and rugby field? those playing surfaces are only really decent for about 2-3 months of the year. they're practically unplayable and incredibly spotty by the end of football season?

the only downside i can think of is the potential for damage from irresponsible grillers...but at least the fields would be level, playable and much easier to navigate in inclement weather during tailgating...

Aug 13, 2013, 11:01 AM

what a crazy summer this has been.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A high of 71 on August 31 would be extremely nice.

Aug 13, 2013, 1:57 PM

Beautiful blue sky with no clouds and a 10 mph breeze out of the North. An early fall like day.......please!

Just before the global warming theory took root?

There's something to be said for nature's desire to make the 'learned,' look really ignorant.

I'm still stuck on the global cooling theory of the 1970s. :)

remember when they stopped the parking on Bowman Field

Aug 13, 2013, 11:07 AM

the field got destroyed when it was sopping wet, and then used for gameday parking.

I remember very well selling programs on game day as a kid and watching cars spinning their wheels coming and going on Bowman when it was wet. Honestly, even today, Homecoming displays tear Bowman to shreds, but it's only once per year and the clean-up and recovery is pretty swift.
