question for conservatives

May 4, 2017, 6:12 PM

Under the new healthcare proposal, rates for older people are expected to increase dramatically. Being that this will disproportionately affect conservative voters over younger, liberal voters, how was this a win? What do you think will happen in two years when the rates not only go up, but go up significantly for older voters? I find the political calculus on this one dumbfounding.

Re: Yes you did.

May 4, 2017, 8:01 PM

No, I was comparing the COSTS of not maintaining your vehicle with not maintaining your health. And this was months ago. Being that if you let either slide, that it will cost you MORE in the long rung.

Notice comparing COSTS, is not comparing people to cars like you claimed. Nuance is a tricky thing for some I guess.

May 4, 2017, 8:13 PM

Example

Joe notices his oil light comes on his car, because he can not afford an oil change he decided to keep driving anyway. Several months later his car breaks down and the mechanic informs him that his engine will need to be replaced. Had Joe just changed his oil, it would have cost him less.

Peter is feeling tired and sluggish and has a tough focusing at work. Because he does not have health insurance, he decides not to visit the doctor to have tests run. Several months later Peter's wife finds him on the floor passed out and has him rushed to the emergency room. Peter finds out that he has been carrying Hep C since his time in the brothel when he fought in Korea. Had he gotten routine blood work done he could have treated it with medication, instead he will need a liver transplant.

May 4, 2017, 7:59 PM [ in reply to Huh? ]

the way insurance works is the people who pay for it, but aren't using it are providing the revenue that pays out to the people who pay for it and need it. So if you cut the people who don't need it out of the equation, then... how does it work exactly?

my apologies beefie, I just transferred off my New Hampshire car insurance because I bought a new car today. State farm here told me, and I quote, "We do things differently in NC". I was not happy with the rate they quoted me so they offered to give me and app and a device I keep in my glove box to determine how many miles I put on my car to lower said rate. I was wrong, in this state. Too bad for them my commute 1 way is 1/2 of a mile.

from what I have seen today, 60-64.99 will get hit the hardest. I imagine in a state with a high prevalence of diabetes, it could be younger. Also, Ryan has been pushing to raise the age of eligibility for medicare for a while now. Maybe this is what he means by phase two in healthcare reform.
