He's widely regarded as one of the worst referees of all time. Most people think he's out to get Clemson but personally I think he screws everyone over. He's just that incompetent. Also famous for his "giving him the business" call.

because he is such an incompetent official. He interjects himself into games way too frequently and at critical moments in the games often effecting the outcome.
He and his crew call games like they have money riding on them (phantom holding and illegal formation calls).

Ron Cherry and his crew are the worst officials in the country. I don't think he's biased against Clemson, he's just bad. I don't believe there are any ACC teams that want him calling their games.

of the football in a game against what I believe to be Ball State. Noone near Yusef/Keith and Cherry does some sidestep thing that puts his elbow right into the ball and puts it on the ground. That is a typical play with Ron, to be blunt...its all about Ron when he works a game. The fans, the teams, the tv crew are all there just to watch him work his magic.

Seems as if all fans hate the man. I figure it must be the way he speaks over the PS system, and his first down gyrations. Surprisingly though, I have talked to a few coaches who think he is a good official. Bottom line is that I don't think there has ever been a popular referee, or official, in any sport. Fans are always looking to blame an outside influence for their teams shortcomings, and an official is an easy target.
