This season I've seen all sorts of Cole Stoudt

insults and innuendo on this board. From booing at the games, insulting him on tnet, making him the butt of more jokes than Spurrier, this has deteriorated into something of which I'm ashamed of my fellow Tiger fans.
I find it so hard to believe that some are saying they will not go to the bowl game if Watson has surgery because Cole will be the starter.
I'm curious.
If a family member of yours has a rough go, loses confidence, hits bottom, is it your response to insult and degrade them? Do you abandon a family member in their time of need?
What we've always been is family at Clemson. That includes on these message boards. This family includes students, staff, players, fans, alum, etc... and its amazing that we could treat a family member, especially when he has indeed lost all confidence, in this manner.
I'm not sure what your excuses are for doing so. Maybe you're young and immature. If so, take a few moments to think how you'd feel if the roles were reversed.
Maybe your just drunk. Back away from the budweiser.
Then again, maybe your just passionate about Clemson winning. The reason you're so passionate is because this is a family.
and family members just don't deserve the treatment Cole has received this year.

Totally agree. Cole has struggled this year at times but he has given a lot to this program over the last four years. He needs our support and i hope we give it to him.

Recognizing that Cole is not a D-1 talent is not the same as personally insulting him. He has been asked to perform at a level that simply exceeds his ability. Certainly, he should not be ridiculed or personally denigrated. However, he is not owed playing time. He can't get the job done, something that is painfully obvious. Continuing to start him is utterly unfair to his teammates. At this level it's about performance, and anyone who doesn't understand that shouldn't be here. It's now time to face facts, go with our other two QB's and give it our best shot.

I've seen countless insults and jokes at Cole's expense. To pretend they haven't happened is more insulting.
Cole Stoudt has had a tough year, but we've all seen him play better than he's showing. I think the old cliche "he's trying too hard" is fitting. The guy has lost all confidence.
All that being said, if the coaches start another QB instead of Cole in the bowl game, I will support him as well, good or bad showing.

This bowl game (I almost spelled it as blow game) is about more than just Cole Stoudt. This is enough. He has been supported. He has gotten a 4 year degree when he almost transferred. If he has not been talked out of transferring we would have Chad Kelly right now. If he was starting he would have a good attitude. What's worse? Having a little attitude because your aren't getting to play or getting to play, completely losing the GT game for us and not owning up to his mistakes? After the game we get to see him with almost a smirk on his face and hear him say,"things just didn't go our way. We need to just "get in the film room" and correct some things."
That is utterly a joke guys. He is not part of the future. If we opt to have Watson get his surgery, we need to use same game plan as used against SC, but have Nick run it. Lots of jet sweeps, handoffs, and maybe 5-10 short passes. Period! Stop giving excuses for Cole. It is done. Nothing personal.

I glad someone finally said it. I watched his interview after the gt game and he seemed so "care free". He has never said "I made some mistakes that I need to fix". I know that he knows he didn't play well, and I don't expect him to come out and say that he is terrible. But just a little ownership of his horrible play would go a long way.

If Nick were ready, he would be the starter. Based on Cole's performance the coaching staff would be more than justified.
And there is no way Dabo would've kept Chad Kelly with that attitude. Where are you getting this crap from?

What is insulting is to sit here and keep dodging around the truth that has had a chance to be proven wrong, has had a chance to be "coach spoken", and has had a chance when things got tough and it failed miserably.
You say "we've seen Cole play better". Can I challenge you to speak to the whole Tiger fan base on when that exactly was and what high level team that was against? You've seen him last year look better in mop-up duty, you've seen him manage games that our team was favored in (but should have beaten by more than his management ended at..example, Wake Forest). I'm not knocking him, and am in full support fo any athlete that plays for this team, but I am grasping at straws trying to find the proof we thought we'd see. We went into the season with every UGA fan saying "but who has he played against" when we talked about his last year's accolades....we are walking out of the season understanding what they saw IMO. It just honestly hasn't been there, no matter how you try to pump it. The kid just doesn't have it...if he did, he'd have performed at a high level in Watson's absence at some point. You can't say that in 2-3 plays into his entry into the SCar game, throwing yet ANOTHER interception is high level. As said best in The Replacements, it's quick sand....and he's in it.

You've missed the point of the post entirely.
I'm not arguing that Cole has played badly. Its been absolutely horrid at times.
I am saying that as a player for Clemson University, while we can all agree we need better at QB, there is no place for personal ridicule, booing and insults.
Cole is trying too hard to be good. The level of hate directed at him is exacerbating the problem, not fixing it.

I agree he shouldn't be ridiculed....I also though think half of the booing is at the coaches for allowing him to stay in a game when he is quick-sanding (i.e. GT). I'm still not fully convinced the fans are fully booing him and not just booing the fact that the coaches were sticking with the "he's earned the spot" mentality after a few mistakes, no matter the costs. He has worked hard and deserves respect, but respect doesn't ranslate into "the starting position"...that I'm not sure he "deserves".

judging the the posts I've seen here on tnet, I'd say a good bit of the booing is aimed directly at Cole. I don't disagree completely with you statement though.

Some feel this is America and they have the right to say anything on a message board. They do have the right, but that attitude is totally disgusting for a true Clemson fan....in my opinion.

Cole deserves not to be thrown into the fire again by the Clemson coaching staff. He simply lacks the ability. And if our other two QB's are as talentless as some seem to think, the whose fault is that? In short, who recruited them and put them on scholarship??? Hello!

Cole isn't liked. I've seen countless posts on the contrary. But this is bigtime college football and Cole hasn't just played badly at times but diwn right horrendous . The int against sc was seen before the ball was snapped . I like Cole but facts are facts. You start throwing interceptions and losing games, there is a backlash. Just how it is. If he doesn't like it, I'd quit playing and take up checkers .

What's more horrendous is the treatment of Cole by Tiger fans.
And I've seen plenty of people "not liking" Cole to the point of hate.

Cole deserves much more respect than he has received. His performance has been poor, but he is a member of the team. Much of what has been said about his is definitely out of line.

I don't hate the guy personally, and I've never booed him chiefly because I think booing is pretty immature by itself. But I don't have to be optimistic about him playing, and I don't have to believe in him. I'll pull for him if he's playing, but I've already chalked up a loss in my mind. I don't trust him as a QB anymore than I would trust a drunk uncle to babysit.

that are of the opinion that we need to stop giving awards out for all A's, perfect attendance or whatever cause it might hurt someone's feelings. He has gotten a free college education and I'm sure he's pulled in his share of leg along the way. Clemson has given him MUCH more than he has ever given Clemson. Enough already

I was probably one of Cole's biggest supporters and truly believed he could get the job done. It has been painful to watch as I have pulled hard for the guy. He's made some bad choices, but I also felt that Morris didn't recognize the weaknesses in Cole's game and put him in some of the situations he had to face. Not blaming Morris, but it's his job to know these weaknesses, especially after Cole was injured. Cole also came in COLD several times, not having practiced with the 1's, but expected to play like he had.
For me, I realize that Cole is not the QB I thought he would be this year. But I just keep pulling for the guy, because he is the best option we have in this situation. Personally, I hope that he plays in the bowl game and does well. Like it or not, we would not be 9-3 if Cole had not been there for us in Watson's absence. We might be playing USUC in Shreveport for our bowl game - and it would be harder to laugh at them in that case.
Just another side of a nasty coin.

Like I said in my previous post, what has Cole done, besides playing poorly, to make us say we won't attend the bowl game? I feel like watching him at QB this season has cost me some years off my life but he's been a team player and never gave up. He never gave up on Clemson so we as fans shouldn't give up on him

Dec 9, 2014, 7:06 AM

that give us the best chance to win ANY game. Not the nicest, most loyal players. Now if all we got is a turnover prone player to throw in there then that is not good at all. We all know that turnovers can be the leading cause of losing games. I think fans get angry and lash out in protest instead of it being personal

Cole is a good person not so good QB. I think more of the booing was aimed at Dabo for continuing to make him out to be something he is clearly not. I hope he does well and will be cheering for him in the bowl game. I feel though his best will not be enough. It's not about Cole struggling it's about dabo continuing to put him back out there.

better coach for Cole. Morris had his plays set up for QB's like Tajh and DW. And he lost trust in Cole after first interception against Gawja, and really got conservative with him - remember 4th quarter - 3 and out, 3 and out, 3 and out, which really hurt defense. He announced his "20 plays for Cole" just before GT game thinking DW would play whole game. GT unfortunately knew those plays! I am glad Morris is gone, and hopefully, we will see a different Cole in bowl game?
