Frosh could not play with Varsity in FB and Bball until 1970

plus or minus. My Brother played on 1961 Freshman team, which had 8 strings brilliantly organized and coached by Whitey Jordan. Dr. Bill Hunter was an outstanding volunteer coach for O line. Only the first 3 teams were invited to play with varsity the next year. Their games with Georgia, USC, etc were well attended. And the Freshman stars got a lot of publicity. Some of them were not nearly as good. My Brother made the third team, but had tragic accident that next summer (1962) and could never play fb again.

"not nearly as good" on the varsity that is...

I will never forget Kent Lawrence from Daniel H.S. burning us with his speed, and becoming All American at UGA as Frank Howard thought he was too skinny to play at Clemson!

Kent Lawrence couldn't qualify academically to play for Clemson. Neither could TE Dennis Hughes from Seneca, and the two of them killed us playing for UGA in the mid 60s. ACC SAT requirements were higher than most other conferences during that period, and the coots left the ACC for that reason.

Hmm, know it is true for Hughes but Lawrence? Howard did not
